Wilbon starts off by saying the NCAA “must be feeling itself” and then later on says “should Kentucky swallow hard.” Tell us what you really mean, Mike.

UK should apologize right after UCLA apologizes for all of those wins that were bought and paid for by Sam Gilbert. Give me a break. How do you on one hand exonerate a man in your findings and then on the other hand tell him he has to give back his wins?

The NCAA needs to reevaluate its punishments. If Rose and Camby are guilty, erase THEM from the recordbooks and sue them for breach of contract (if the scholarship contract doesn’t say “I will not violate the following rules”, then add it). To punish the coach and other players for one person’s actions is ridiculous.

    22. You obviously have never played a team sport. And for Cal to not ever take blame for these kids mistakes shows how much he really cares about his players. A coach should always take blame for a loss, a bad game or a player getting out of line under his watch. It is his team, he is ultimately responsible for the kids he brings in no matter what they are doing without him knowing.

How about this? Kentucky will apologize when Louisville apologizes for employing its men’s basketball coach despite violating morality clause in his contract AND for the embarassment of it’s A.D. raiding a so-called “second-rate” league whenever he needs to fill a coaching slot?

    23) that is absurd…if he doesn’t know why should he take the fall?….and even if he did it wouldn’t help his current or former players in any shape form or fashion….22 is correct if the NCAA truly cared about players they would find a way to punish the players who broke the reals instead of everyone else on the team by vacating wins or giving a program the dreaded “death penalty”…all that does is punish the incoming players while coaches like kelvin sampson, bruce pearl, jim tressle, and tark the shark can just jump ship and get out of dodge….unlike cal, these guys are noted liars and cheaters who were actually found guilty of wrong doing 23…coaches can only be around and take care of a player so much…hsould a parent get charged if their kid is caught with drugs? no!!!!!!!! the parent is not always at fault no matter how hard they try… 23 = assclown as chris jericho would say

Not sure how much more I can add given 36. Yes, I played team sports. My football coach in high school did not have control over us and there is no way he could have. Take that to the collegiate level with agents everywhere with money and there is no possible way a coach can have control 24/7. In the Rose case, the friggin’ Clearinghouse said he was good to go so Cal played him. The testing service then sent Rose a letter to his Chicago address while he was playing in the Final 4 saying if he didn’t contest the charges, they would invalidate his scores. Obviously, he didn’t and they invalidated them. The NCAA did its strict adherence thing (which doesn’t apply to Duke) and vacated the season. I have done foreclosures and collections work as an attorney. I have NEVER taken a default judgment against someone when I knew the address I was using was not where they were (even if it was “technically” his or her address). The testing service did just that and the NCAA went lockstep with them.

Does any of this really matter? The games were won they didn’t declare the other teams the winner. It’s the same as in NASCAR. If after the race in post race inspection if the car fails inspection for what ever reason they’re typically fined and docked points but rarely take away the win. Can’t change history man it happened he as a coach won the games. BTW wasnt the schools themselves punished not Cal? Nothing to see here moving on.

Love the legal analogy 37! Funny how NCAA wants UK to apologize for celebrating those Cal wins, but UMass does not have to take down their banners for those wins. Which one is a lasting reminder…an after-game celebration that happened a few months ago and leftover game ball on an office shelf OR a big huge banner hung prominently in the UMass gym? The NCAA has their priorities and their value system royally messed up!

43, there are probably more people in Cal’s office than in UMass’ gym. Also, I have a great suggestion for both the NCAA and the horse they rode in on.

Exactly. We should have a newsworthy celebration of Cal’s 542nd win, which will be coming very soon. We could try to get a celebrity (Drake?) in town, and make it one big party, and attach a charity to it. That way, we will showcase Cal’s good deeds, and laugh at the NCAA while it is going down.
