One of the things I get asked the most by UK fans is “why dont you guys do more on football?” And it is a fair question. In the month of August, we will have daily football posts, our friend Rob Gidel will be stopping by to drop knowledge and Duncan Cavanah will start his football preview posts next week. But in the short term, we will give you what we know. And the biggest news coming out of the football world right now is the development of Michael Hartline. We told you a few weeks ago about hints from Joker Phillips that Hartline might be in the lead in the QB race, and even though Phillips backed away from those comments soon after, Michael has been seen as the leader for some time. In recent weeks however the scuttlebutt has gotten even louder from those around the program that Hartline is beginning to hit his groove. Comments from players and those who are around the team suggest that not only has Michael taken the early lead on the QB position, his confidence and leadership have improved immensely.
I have spoken a few times in recent months with Michael and I am very impressed with the young man. He is taking his potential role as leader for a very important season for the football team very seriously. He told me that he has been focusing for years for just this moment and he doesnt want to let anything get in the way of success. While we will learn more once daily practices begin, if the talk coming out of Lexington is any indication, Hartline is grabbing the bull by the horns and ready to continue the recent tradition of top-notch QBs at UK.
