The #1 prospect in 2011 and probably all of high school basketball, Mike Gilchrist will be making the trip with Kyrie Irving to Kentucky’s Big Blue Madness on the weekend of October 16th.
Since news of Irving’s planned trip to Lexington for Big Blue Madness came out, there have been rumblings of the possibility of Irving’s close friend and St. Patrick’s High School teammate tagging along. When Gilchrist planned visits to both Rutgers and Villanova recently, the rumblings grew stronger as one had to feel that Kentucky would be getting a visit soon. After all, Gilchrist has long been thought to be a strong Kentucky lean. Now we find that those rumblings are true, making Big Blue Madness (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) even MORE exciting.
So while Kentucky’s new head coach is welcomed into his official reign over the Bluegrass, the nation’s top high school player will be taking it all in. Calipari probably couldn’t have dreamed better beginning.
