Michael Dyer headed to Louisville, promises not to possess a weapon

Earlier this week, there were hints that former Auburn running back Michael Dyer would end up at Louisville, and now it’s official. Dyer, who rushed for over 1,000 yards in his freshman and sophomore seasons at Auburn, will be immediately eligible as a junior after graduating last month from Arkansas Baptist College. Dyer was dismissed from Auburn and Arkansas State because of incidents involving guns and drugs, but has been working to reform his behavior.

Dyer is pledging to be on his best behavior at Louisville, and in his press release, it says he has promised Charlie Strong he won’t possess a weapon while at UofL. So far, so good on Charlie’s 5th core value:

1) No lying’
2) No hurtin’ the women
3) No drugs
4) No stealin’
5) No guns

I have to laugh at UL fans who have convinced themselves they would get a title shot with that schedule. They are in a low/mid major quality conference and somehow managed to make their non-conf schedule even weaker. They would be around 10th in the SEC, 3rd/4th in the ACC, 5th/6th in the Big 10, 3rd/4th in the Pac 12, and 4th/5th in the Big 12. If they lose one game they arent a top 40 team.

2007. The point is UL is not getting in the championship game because of their poor schedule. They’re more than likely a Top 20 team, but they’d likely lose 3-4 games in the SEC because they’d likely play no less than 3-4 ranked higher IF they were in the SEC.

As a person, I hope it works out for him and he’s able to get his life on track and ultimately to the NFL. However, I have plenty of questions about eligibility. An article said he completed 46 hrs in 3 semesters to earn his Associates Degree. Nothing unusual about that, but does that mean that in 3 semesters at Auburn he completed approximately 14 hrs? Seems a bit fishy.

10 With UKs schedule they are no better than 6-6 (maybe 7-5), if they replace the UK game with a “top 10” opponent like UK plays…that assumes they can beat Mizzou and 2 of UT, Vandy, and MSU.

Now he goes and does this…it is like another step in the wrong direction. I only hope he personally has a good season but that their team loses a lot. unfortunately with that cupcake of a schedule, adding player like this is a really good move for them. UGH

If UL really is top ten, then why take a chance on this kid at all? Multiple problems at multiple universities doesn’t convince me he will change. Nice to see a young man with gun/drug incidents pledge that “he won’t carry a weapon.” How many people have to make that promise in college? Way to stick to the true UL core values:

    1) L’ raising!
    2) Thugging
    3) Line beard trimming
    4) Drinking (Crown, of course)
    5) Bandwagoning

    11:52 am August 2, 2013 Permalink

I guess if he had promised not to carry guns at Auburn and Ark. State that he would have been just fine. I’m relieved that he promised UL he wouldn’t get involved with guns and of course, the environment at UL should help him fulfill that promise.

Some of my fellow cat fans make me LOL. So you think we are much better than UL football because we are in the SEC. Our problem is, we are always on the bottom of the conference. When was the last time we beat Florida? Good luck this season and I hope our new coach does well. However contrary to the posts here, UL coach Strong does not have Thugs playing for him, he has young men that respect him. To cast Strong’s players in a negative light, is dishonest. I like UK and went to school there. I also respect UL and coach Strong. UL AD Tom Jurich is I think one of the best ADs in the nation.

#23 – really we love criminal players? Maybe Terrence Jones or the other kids you JUST KICKED OFF YOUR FOOTBALL TEAM would disagree with you.

This kid got in trouble for smoking “spice” not weed, and at the time spice was completely legal. He also legally possessed a fire arm which he willingly offered up to police during a routine traffic stop though he did not have to because it was locked in his trunk. Our players have tweeted out how greatful they are to have a coach who cares more about changing young man’s lives than he does about winning.

Also, in the main article – way to make fun of Charlie for being one of the biggest advocates against violence against women. What a horrible thing to be known for….

I can’t wait to run all over you slapdicks and then do it all again back at PJCS next year when you guys think your savior (Barker) is coming. You will have a team of freshman who were not ranked as high as the guys they will be playing who are juniors and seniors. You guys better hope the series ends soon, even Stoops was like “yeah I really wouldn’t mind if we don’t play them every year”

You guys keep talking about our schedule – Georgia backed out on us, nothing we can do about that. But in our last game we beat your precious Gators and would be happy to take on whoever else that overrated conference has to offer. When you don’t win a game in a conference, I feel like its quite stupid to brag about being in that conference.

See you soon little kitties! We will bring our 2 BCS trophies so you can see what they look like.

He also dropped out of high school at one point to provide for his mother with cancer and his OLDER siblings. I understand that you are going to blindly take shots at UL players you know nothing about, but Teddy is pretty much untouchable and you only make yourself look like an idiot.

Also when was your “championship” from again? The 40’s… Yeah, really relevant. Just like half of your basketball championships that won before black kids were able to play, the game was totally different, and the NIT tournament was actually the more prestigious at the time. Strong deserves credit for turning around the U of L program & cleaning up the Kragthorpe mess. But, holding him out as some virtuous role model is too much of a stretch. In three short years here, Strong hired Clint Hurtt, who is solely responsible for Bridgewater coming, and retained him well after it became common knowledge that he knowingly broke serious NCAA rules for several years. Now, he brings in Dyer, who has serious character flaws and has failed a second chance. And don’t forget Demar Dorsey, who Strong accepted as a transfer after he was refused by Michigan because of multiple alleged felonies.

A good coach? Absolutely. Winning the “right way”? To quote a former U of L coach..Not so fast my friends….

Yes, we talk about UofL, as we talk about all of our opponents and even teams we don’t play some time. But how would you know we are talking about you if you weren’t here checking? Sweating us, keep sweating us!

85 who has won more in head-to-head competition? UK in football and basketball. Who has more total victories in each sport? Who has more national championships in each sport? Sugar Bowl is good, but let’s not act like it was a national championship.

I’m sitting here sounding out all the words in The Little Engine That Could book, hoping to boost my GPA. Don’t worry though, if I get eligible, Cal will make sure I get a 4.0. Then he will brag to everyone how smart I am.

You can smell the fear from the ghetto u fans who always post over here. They know we’re gonna start busting that azz again in the very near future like we did in the krag years. Can’t wait till mushmouth and the thugs are fighting to get bowl eligible every year in the ACC after bug eyed teddy leaves. We’re humiliating them in recruiting, and it will start happening on the field very soon. Fat boy hurtt better get the checkbook back out. The sham BCS bowls that were a by product of playing in a high school league are over for Boise St east.

That’s what you are in football. This new coach won’t change that. You will lose to UL as long as Charlie is there book it kids. Quit sweating us like you wouldn’t love to have Dyer on your squad. And you were preseason top 5 last year and you lost in the first round of the NIT. Has to be the biggest fall from grace in the history of Men’s bb. Add that to all your 40’s and 50’s Championships. UL is at the top of College sports and you bums are crazy butt hurt over it. We love it

uK football doesn’t have a championship either, cause when they won that bowl game, it’s wasn’t considered a championship game, it was just a bowl game, the actual champs from that year were Oklahoma, it too thirty years for someone to apply new rules and standards to go back in time and say that technically, if the BCS existed then UK would have been the champs, but you can’t hop in a time machine and give that trophy to someone else. If they were the true 1950 national champs then there would be a trophy in their case for it. But there isn’t, cause its in Oklahoma

94 You will lose to UK as long as Stoops is here book it kids. See how easy it is to say that? It’s going to be like the pre-Joker days book it. UL only won 1 national championship this year so no, you are not at the top of college sports. You had a great year and clearly you aren’t used to it or you all would know how to act like it.

Love how everyone here assumes UK is e on the rise because of great recruiting. I hate to rain on your parade, but just cause Stoops can recruit doesn’t mean he can effectively manage a team as a head coach. Lots of proven coordinators fail in that role. Taking a wait and see approach might make the bumpy road ahead a little easier. I promise you by the end of this 2-10 or 3-9 season many of you so called supporters will be doubting Stoops. Just give him time. As a UofL fan, I want UK to get better, UofL doesn’t need another pansy on their schedule year after year, we all know they have plenty on the schedule this year, but they really can’t be to blame for the conference shakeups. Also, its not like they didn’t try to get one marquee game, even ESPN tried to help them.

Lastly, no-one, and I mean no-one is a saint. Not Strong, not Calipari, not you, not me. Dyer made some mistakes, but if you looked at what he did, took a year off from football to focus on making himself a better person, and how he has agreed to submit to weekly drug tests. This young man deserves some slack. Again, no-one here is perfect. Just trying to be logical, but I might be in the wrong place for that.

110 – I would like to point out that Stoops has done much much more than just recruit well. So far he has not made one wrong move. He has put together a fantastic coaching staff. That is the very first thing a new head coach has to do to begin his career as a head coach. He already had a plan to make UK successful before he even interviewed for the job showing he had put in much thought about what it would take to bring UK out of the tailspin Joker put it in. He has systematically implemented that well-thought-out plan. No one is saying it will be easy but so far he has been absolutely spectacular in every phase of his new position. Of course any new head coach will have some growing pains and it takes time to implement new schemes on offense and defense. Very few fans are expecting a bowl game this season. However it takes good players to make a good football team and they are bringing them in at an unprecedented rate. The future looks very bright and no UL fan can diminish my hopes for that bright future.

Whether they will admit it or not Louisville was concerned when UK got Cal and we know they had good reason. Now they are as well with what Stoops is doing. Deep down they know that Stoops is light years ahead of Joker. I acknowledge that this year is going to be tough but with each year Stoops brings in more and more talent and things will swing UK’s way. Funny thing Coach Moorer told me personally “we don’t take kids who have problems at other schools”. I suspect that went out the window with serious talent.

When Strong took over UofL you all had the exact same aspirations for your team as do we with our team & Stoops. You said many of the same optimistic things we have & called us ignorant for questioning it. So, when we call you ignorant for questioning the optimistic things we say & tell us just because Stoops can recruit well doesn’t mean he can coach, try to keep in mind you were in the same place as us saying the same things. There is NO reason we can’t do what UofL has within a few years so stop acting like there is, it’s just plain stupid lol

What are you last posters talking about? This isn’t about UK, Its about BBN Trashing Louisville for taking one of the most talented transfer’s in recent History. Yeah he has some blemish’s on his record.. But a ton of talent that should not be passed over because of what Auburn could not handle. Coach Strong knows what he is doing, And Louisville just landed a Bo Jackson record shattering Starting RB.
