On September 10th of this year, the Friends for Michael Brent Organization will be holding a Charity Golf Tournament for the Organization designed to raise money for spinal cord research. The tournament is in Henry County at the Henry County Country Club in Newcastle, Kentucky. This tournament and the organization are named for Michael Brent, a former writer for the Cats Pause who was injured in a car accident and paralyzed at the age of 18. Michael was a great athlete and a great golfer before his injury and was scheduled to play golf for Campbellsville University. Michael however did not let the injury define him and moved on to graduate from the University of Kentucky in 2004, with a degree in journalism and do work for the Cats Pause. In 2007, he unfortunately had a perforated ulcer that hit him suddenly and took his life.
This organization was created in his honor and does great work. This tournament has been going on for eight years and we are very excited to be able to play it in this year. We will have a Kentucky Sports Radio team with myself, Bobby Perry, Mike Pratt and my law partner Johnny Bruce. Others including Denny Crum will be at the tournament and we are hoping to make it a full field by participation from other UK fans.
If you are interested in participating, please call Cindy Norton at 502-396-3214 and register as an individual or as a team. The cost is $65 a person and that includes green fees and a lunch at the tournament. It should be a great event and I would like to see as many UK fans as possible out there and playing for this good cause. We often talk about those that love the Cats and go out of their way to support the Big Blue, and Michael was one of those individuals as much as anyone that I know. His passion for UK sports was tremendous and I hope that if possible, you can help contribute to his legacy.
