Micah Johnson has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week for his 14 tackle performance against Auburn. Johnson recorded 8 solo and 6 assisted tackles, including a huge stop for a loss on 2nd and 2 on Auburn’s final drive. His 14 tackles were one shy of a career high and he is currently fifth in the SEC, averaging 8.7 tackles per game. Congratulations to Micah, and also to fellow linebackers Danny Trevathan and Sam Maxwell, who each achieved career highs in tackles with 14 and 10. Go Cats.
— Also Morgan Newton will start Saturday, but Will Fidler will also play in the first half. Brooks acknowledged that might be unfair to Fidler, but thinks having the more experienced guy off the bench helps.
— Derrick Locke probably will not play against Louisiana-Monroe. Its Alphonso Smith time.
— Both the La-Monroe and Mississippi State games will be on Fox Sports Net at 7 pm. That means a night game on Halloween…watch out.
