Men’s team inspired by UK Hoops

Watch the ladies do their thing against Ole Miss tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum. MKG will be in the front row taking notes.

We now interrupt your National Signing Day for a little basketball. KSR favorite Larry Vaught dug up this gem of a quote from Cal after last night’s blowout of Tennessee, in which he said that the fun, free and loose Cats we’ve seen in the past few games may have an unexpected inspiration: the women’s team.

Cal on Coach Mitchell:

“I’ll stop in the office, he’ll stop in my office. I’ll stop in his practice, he’ll stop in my practice. He has done such a fabulous (job). He’s selling out Memorial (Coliseum). We played Alabama, sellout. Valerie Still was back. And they’re really good, like they’re really good. They’re fun to watch.

My players love watching them play. Coach, why don’t we play a little like them, let us go a little bit. So it’s been a unique experience in that there are other programs that have had teams like this, but I just don’t know if they’ve gotten along like our two teams have.”

The camaraderie and support between the men’s and women’s teams is wonderful, and, considering Cal’s quote above, may even prove useful on the court. With the men’s team resting comfortably at #1 and the ladies at #5 (their highest ranking in school history), are two National Championships too much to dream for?

Coach Mitchell needs to get a raise for what he has accomplished & at the speed he has accomplished it, we need to get him locked up in a longer contract. Keep it going ladies !!

2, having fun rotting in hell. Its about time the men took a note from the women’s page. Their defense is crazy good and they play with such intensity and fire the men had been lacking, glad to see they can feed off of each other. As much as I’d love to see the women when a NC, I dont know about that with Baylor having a man on their team. Regardless, it’s been a dream season that will only help this program in the long run and I agree, Mitchell dose deserves a raise. Any coach who can get a PAC 10 POY to transfer to his team deserves it, not to mention another McDs AA transfer in from UConn, deserves it. Our basketball programs are the sh*t! Go Cats!

Jason King and Pat Forde are on the bandwagon for Davis as POY. We need to get behind this, its Kentucky’s time for such an award, and Davis deserves it. He is better every single game, and most coaches would not trade him for any other player in the country.

Part of me thinks Kentucky would explode from the awesomeness. Another part of me fears that the ladies would be overshadowed by the men if this were to happen, and they don’t deserve that. As much as I want to win #10 or so, I wouldn’t terribly mind an odd Final Four only year with the ladies being the one to win the championship, so they can get a little spotlight all their own and maybe get more games of theirs on ESPN2 like the Duke and UConn ladies’ teams.

I too live in the Catlanta, Georgia area. This pretty much sums it up: Georgia has more people, and predictably more rednecks, more rich people, more good resturants, more pro sports teams, a lot more good football players, and even more recruits signing with UK today — than the state of Kentucky.

    So there you go.
