During Coach Calipari’s whirlwind tour across the country last week, one visit got left out of our review of his destinations. While circling the globe, Cal stopped in Baltimore to see 2010 Small forward prospect Roscoe Smith. Smith is one of the elite players in the 2010 class (get used to hearing that) and is the 6’8″ slasher type player (get used to hearing that as well) that Calipari continues to covet. Smith was high on Cal’s list at Memphis and some thought they were the leader at the time he left for Kentucky. His list includes a number of Big East schools, Maryland and now Kentucky and he may very well be one of the first 2010 prospects to take a visit to Lexington.
One scout gave me this report on Smith: “He is long, he is quick and he can score on anyone close to the basket. Think Tayshaun with a quicker first step and a bit more suspect jump shot. He will be one of the best defenders in this class and is a perfect fit for Cal’s offense.” Sounds good eh?
