Doesn’t the defender look like one of the generic plastic football players that you used to have on your birthday cake?
Like I said in one of my first posts on here, I’m a big believer in the idea that it’s never too early to look toward the future in terms of recruiting – especially in football – so today we’ll start taking a very brief look at the guys in the class of 2009 who have Kentucky listed as a potential destination. And we’re going to start right at the top with WR Marlon Brown, ranked as the #2 wideout and the 16th best player overall according to the Rivals 100.
Brown, a 6’5″, five star (a five star!?!?!) WR out of Memphis, Tenn., has 82 catches and over 1500 yards and 14 TDs receiving over the past two seasons and even ran for 629 yards and 10 TDs on 58 carries as a junior. Right now, he has the Cats listed as one of the 15 schools he’s considering. All of the big one’s you would expect (Florida, USC, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, etc.) have offered and you would think that the Cats might not be able to compete with the big boys on this one. But, the Cats might be in this thing deeper than you think because of one thing: basketball.
Brown is also a three-star small forward and wants to play both sports in college. He averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds as a sophomore and led his team to the state title as a junior (I was unable to find his final stats). Most reports say that where he takes his football talents will be based mostly on who will be letting him play basketball. Things could get interesting if the Cats can make it past his next trim this summer.
In the meantime, enjoy this video and don’t forget to say your prayers.
