Meet LeRon Black

With the way Calipari is locking down top prospects, I guess it shouldn’t be surprising that he’s spending some time visiting with a 2014 player.  Coach Cal spent last night watching Memphis forward LeRon Black, only a high school freshman.  The major recruiting sites haven’t dipped their toes that deep into the 2014 waters yet, but most everyone agrees that the swingman, who says he models his game after Kevin Durant, is among the best prospects in his class.  Rivals says he has offers already from Memphis and Auburn.  ESPN has him placed their Top 100 Watch List.  Black, who measures in at 6’6″ says he expects to grow to at least 6’9″.

Still waiting (patiently) for that first 2012 commit … pains me to see IU with the #1 class. Barring a two-year rule put into the next CBA, we will see an unprecedented mass exodus after next season (3 graduating seniors, plus the early entrants). 2012 needs to be a HUGE class if UK/Cal is going to maintain positioning. And as it stands, lots of 2012 prospects are falling off the board.

Leron Black scored 24 in a sub-state (state tournament qualifying play-in) game. He plays for Memphis White Station, which is a perennial power, and has produced players like Robert O’Kelley (Wake Forest late 90’s) and JP Prince (who?).

    Here’s the story: http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2011/mar/08/white-station-hits-stride-in-3rd-quarter/.

Doesn’t seem especially quick, though. He’s long and lanky, but not real swift of foot. Jump shot reminds me a bit of Darius Miller’s.

the kid is 14/15 years old and youre critizing his game and making fun of him for the way he talks on camera. I bet when you were that age you were still trying to get your first boy friend

I saw this kid play in Bowling Green this past December against former recruit Vinny Zollo. He is the real deal and is very, very talented. I also met him, as the head coach use to be my high school coach in Bardstown, Jesus’ (Hey Zeus) Patino. This team handled Clark Co. all game and won by a margin of 15-20 can’t recall exact score. He was very polite and well-mannered. He is very quick and has a great knack for getting a block!

On a sidenote about where this kid is coming from… White Station High School, which recently graduated, Joe Jackson of Memphis, has a senior that has signed with Tubby, another senior that has signed with David Lipscomb, and at third senior that has signed with Northern Illinois. He is not the go to guy this year but look for him to fulfill that role next year.

surely Cal realizes 2012 comes before 2014, right? For the first year since Cal arrived the 2012 class doesnt seem like its going to be all that great, and unfortunately we are going to several to fill the gaps when the the mass exodus occurs. Liggins and Miller will be gone, and if things play out like the experts think we’ll have atleast 3 leave for the NBA.

#20 – Upon what evidence did you base those odds? His mother is a high school teacher and Leron is a well-spoken, bright young man. Your ignorance is showing.
