Sticking with our recent theme of prospects under the radar we now turn our attention back to the man-child that is Chris Hill. On November 12th, you received your first look at this athletic prospect and now we continue our look at Hill, specifically his academics, workout regimen and a possible future visit to UK’s campus.
Academic Situation: An issue that was brought up in the first post was the fact that Hill spent some time at Laurinburg Prep, an institution that later found itself under academic investigation. Because of his time there, academic uncertainties surround Hill at this time. However, the good news is that Hill fully expects to be ready for the 2010 season and is taking correspondence courses right now so that he can clear up any existing uncertainties on his academic record.
Workout Regimen: Many times during scouting trips college coaches will make suggestions to players about certain facets of their game that they would like to see the prospect improve. Chris is constantly working to improve his game, evidenced by his workouts comprising all 7 days of his week. I asked Chris to describe a normal “work day” and he laid out the following to-do list:
6am-9am: Run two miles followed by conditioning, agility training and resistance training
2pm: Individual workouts, wherein Chris strives to tally up 500 made shots
4:30pm-6pm: Team practice
6pm-8pm: Homework and study time
Approximately 8pm or 9pm: Chris goes to a local neighborhood gym and shoots, again striving for a set number of made shots
Possible UK Visit: Although things are far from set in stone, Chris has expressed interest in making the trip up to Lexington on December 5th to watch the Cats take on the Tarheels. Chris is a North Carolina native so this trip would make a lot of sense from that standpoint. Chris, John Wall and CJ Leslie are good friends (the three recently took in a high school game together in North Carolina during John’s trip home for family reasons) so envisioning him making the trip with Leslie doesn’t seem far-fetched at all.
