Meeks named “District Player of the Year”

It’s been a busy day in the world of post-season awards and Jodie Meeks has found another award to go with his status as a First Team All-SEC performer.  Meeks was named as the District IV Player of the Year by the U.S. Basketball Writer’s Association.  Patrick Patterson, however, was not named to the All-District team that encompasses Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama.   Previous UK players named to the team include Ramel Bradley (07-08), Randolph Morris (06-07), Rajon Rondo (05-06), Chuck Hayes (04-05), and both Gerald Fitch and Erik Daniels in 2003-04.

Here are the award winners for District IV:

PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Jodie Meeks, Kentucky

COACH OF THE YEAR
John Calipari, Memphis

ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Nick Calathes, Florida
Toney Douglas, Florida State
Tyreke Evans, Memphis
Lester Hudson, UT-Martin
Jack McClinton, Miami
Jodie Meeks, Kentucky
Tyler Smith, Tennessee
Jermaine Taylor, Central Florida
Jarvis Varnado, Mississippi State
Terrence Williams, Louisville

Also, Jeff Goodman named his All-American teams yesterday and Mr. Meeks filled the shooting guard spot on his Fourth Team.  That was behind Marquette’s Jerel McNeal (1st team), T-Wizzle (2nd) and Wake Forest’s Jeff Teague (3rd).
