Media picks Kentucky to win the SEC

A select number of conference and national media members huddled together to predict the season, and, for the seventh year in a row, KSR was not invited to participate in creating the preseason rankings. We’re offended, but what doesn’t kill us only makes us strong stronger — and we’re satisfied with how the media selections turned out.

Nerlens Noel was named First Team All-SEC; Alex Poythress was named Second Team All-SEC; and Kentucky was picked to finish first in the conference.

First Team All-SEC

BJ Young — Arkansas, G, 6-3, 180, So., St. Louis, Mo.
Kenny Boynton — Florida, G, 6-2, 190, Sr., Pompano Beach, Fla.
Nerlens Noel — Kentucky, F, 6-10, 228, Fr., Everett, Mass.
Phil Pressey — Missouri, G, 5-11, 175, Jr., Dallas, Texas
Jarnell Stokes — Tennessee, F, 6-8, 270, So., Memphis, Tenn.

Second Team All-SEC

Marshawn Powell — Arkansas, F, 6-7, 240, Jr., Newport News, Va.
Patric Young — Florida, C, 6-9, 249, Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope — Georgia, G, 6-5, 205, So., Greenville, Ga.
Alex Poythress — Kentucky, F, 6-7, 239, Fr., Clarksville, Tenn.
Michael Dixon, Jr. — Missouri, G, 6-1 , 190, Sr., Kansas City, Mo.
Jeronne Maymon — Tennessee, F, 6-7, 260, Sr., Madison, Wis.

Am I a moron because I’ve never heard of BJ Young?

He plays for Arkansas, that’s why.

Missouri will be better than Florida this year. The Coach that picked Tennessee to be first in the SEC is a moron. Better yet, the Coaches that picked anyone outside of Kentucky to win the SEC is a moron. Point.Blank.Period.

#2 This is the media poll. On a side note, did Tipton get a vote?

Looks like there is an unspoken rule that limits each school to one 1st team and one 2nd team pick. No other way to explain it.

#2 – Contrary to what you think, not everyone is sold on this year’s UK team. They aren’t as talented or experienced as last years team. That is just the truth. They’ll be good, but not slap yo mama good. I would agree that UK should win the weaka$$ SEC this year though.

#2 The poll is pure speculation. Just like you saying Missouri will be better than Florida. Do you know this for a fact? Similarly, do you know Kentucky will absolutely win the SEC? Gain some perspective before you throw around insults.

Why are the pre-season teams just 5 players each when the actual teams at the end of the season are 8 players each?

    1. I think BJ Young led all freshmen in scoring in the SEC last year.

We already love Nerlens for his pride in the BBN and his big heart for those ailing within it, but one look at the first team all Kansas wide reciever standing next to him tells you he is not getting the minutes Anthony got last season….

I am glad Cats are picked to finish first in the SEC. I think SEC is going to be much better conference in terms of strength with the addition of Missouri and Texas A&M.

Well, judging by this, Arkansas should be pretty good. Funny I hadn’t heard that.

Honestly we heard last year about our guys being young and having no experience too. So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

I’m a little insulted for Archie Goodwin though. I think he may be a big surprise for a lot of people. Burrr

I also don’t believe John Calipari is so satisfied with the #19 point guard in the nation that he didn’t even recruit a point guard. Look for another surprise in Ryan Harrow.

    Go Cats!!

    @ 5

The same weak SEC that has won more National Championships than the Big East in the past 5 years?

We are all to caught up in recruiting, my self included. We forget how good our returning players are going to be. Harrow and Wiltjer can play. For UK to be great both will need to be all-sec. I think they both will be. Harrow will be a pleasent surprise to the ones who have not seen him play much. No way there is 18 better pg. By the end of the year it will be hard to find 5 better then Harrow or Kyle at their positions.

    # 5,,,,,sounds a lot like what people ( those that don’t know dick about basketball ) were saying about UK last year. Did not work out to bad for us did it ? This years team will be better than last years team just in time for the tourny and Poythress will be a match up nightmare for teams.
