Max Smith puts on the Helmet Cam

UK Football has really stepped up their game in the video department. Today, they strapped the helmet cam on Max Smith and gave fans an inside look at what it’s like to be a UK quarterback.

What we learned:

— Joker really likes wearing hats
— Randy Sanders is not a fan of the helmet cam
— Ronnie needs to keep going.

Should we be reading into the fact that Max got to wear the helmet cam and Morgan Newton didn’t? Probably not.

Why didn’t we ever strap one of these on during BCG’s practices?!

Seems to have the Hartline issue of staring down your receiver. I’m going to wishfully assume this is because it is just practice.

Agreed. Seemed to zero-in on his receiver, even when it was not the quick strike toward the sideline.

Its a helmet cam not an eyeball cam. He clearly froze a safety and a linebacker at least once each. If you turn your head to look every time your body goes with and your mechanics break down. Amateurs

#1-Maybe, just maybe, they didn’t make cameras tough enough for that.

Exactly what i wanted to see…weak slants and screen passes. Some things will never change

#7 don’t know if you were being serious or not but I’m actually glad to be seeing that. To play the style that they want to play this year those type of plays will be essential. Actually under Randy Sanders we’ve ran far less screen plays and the offense has suffered because of that. It may not be a fan favorite but its really effective on the field.

Actually, he is not ‘staring down’ his receivers. Quarterbacks go through a progression of routes dictated by their pre-snap read of the defense. Often times Max threw it to his first read which made it look like he was staring his target down, but really he just made a solid read and got the ball out quick.

I do not know if it is a good or bad sign that the QB knows the routes better than the receivers….also, where was Morgan’s film?

#7 you have to have the safeties creeping up and the LB’s crashing down in order to go long… or open up skinny posts

I honestly think that UK could run the spread option… the types of routes and the options are very basic but its the process before the snap that confuses the defense. When a LB is assigned to a RB and he goes in motion and all of a sudden the slot receiver goes in the backfield and that person is Whitlow who CAN throw the football it does mess with a defense. It takes discipline but i think it could work.

#7 There was not a single slant or screen pass in the video.

By the end of the first quarter Louisville will have ten guys in the box.

Man, I hope you are right Beavis. That will certainly make UK’s win all the easier b/c contrary to what most of the fans believe, UK’s passing offense will be pretty crisp this year – just wait to see it. Ten in the box will get shreaded and the new saying will be “LaRod got loose!!!!”
