Max Smith, Demarco Robinson named captains for Kent State

Joker Phillips announced that sophomore quarterback Max Smith and sophomore wide receiver Demarco Robinson will be game captains for Kent State tonight.

Smith had a career day in the season opener at Louisville, tossing 35 completions to 11 receivers for 280 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was one completion away from Tim Couch’s Governors Cup record. Robinson set a new career high in his young tenure as a Wildcat with three receptions for 16 yards. He also returned three punts for 22 yards.

Smith and Robinson will join permanent game captains Matt Smith and Collins Ukwu for the pregame coin toss. Two young guys standing next to two veterans. Joker Phillips says he’s breaking out the rookies today, so we’re getting a good look at the future. Stay tuned to who stands out.

Demarco Robinson being named a game captain reminds me of the 80’s song that goes “What have I? What have I? What have I done to deserve this?”

#2 – All Robinson needed was one vote – from Joker. Now however, every other average player will be expecting to be named captain. Could be a Jedi mind trick by Joker to get captains to play good the day they are captains – ya know since most captains under Joker haven’t necessarily deserved it based on their past performance or at least being a senior.

    Joker is toast…
