Matthew Mitchell’s First Rodeo

Last night at the Horse Park, UK Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell took part in the Battle in the Saddle, competing to pen a group of cattle as quickly as possible and help raise money for the Kentucky Horse Park. According to attendee Kristen Goncharoff, “I’m pretty sure they were teaching him to basically ride before he even went into the ring with his team.” Ever the good sport, that Matthew Mitchell. Although I have to say, I still like him in Hammer Pants better than in a cowboy hat.

Is it just me, or does he look too big for that horse?

I love that buckskin horse. to #1 – I think that’s a quarter horse – they’re not an exceptionally tall breed so if you’re 6 foot tall or more, you’ll look kind of lanky on one.

1 – They could have put him up on a Clydesdale that would have been more his size but the horse wouldn’t have had a clue how to cut those cattle or been nimble enough for the job. Cutting horses are amazing to watch in action. They really seem to have fun at their job. Don’t worry about that Quarter Horse being too small to carry Coach Mitchell, as a breed they are exceptionally tough, sturdy horses.
