Congratulations are in order for our dear friend and beloved leader, Matt Jones, who is partnering with Insight Communications to bring you sports programming on their new all-news/sports/weather channel, cn|2. Here is the official press release sent out this morning:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – cn|2, Insight Communications new local television channel serving the Louisville, Northern Kentucky, Lexington, Evansville and Bowling Green markets, announced today that Matt Jones will join the channel as host of a television program focusing on Kentucky sports and as editor of the new cn|2 Sports website, sports.mycn2.com. Jones, the founder and editor of the highly popular website www.KentuckySportsRadio.com, will begin hosting the television program this Fall; the cn|2 Sports website has launched today at http://sports.mycn2.com/. Although not affiliated with cn|2, Jones will also continue to operate www.KentuckySportsRadio.com.
“cn|2 was created because our customers are looking for more local, more timely, and more thorough coverage of the news that matters and opinions they trust. Providing them with compelling sports programming is key to fulfilling that mission and Matt will play a large part in that effort,” said Insight Communications Director of Public Affairs, Jason Keller.
“I am excited about the opportunity to be part of this exciting new endeavor,” said Matt Jones. “Over the years, we have attempted to cover sports on the Internet in this state in a new way, with a unique voice that appeals to the average fan. I now want to do that on television and present coverage of, and opinions on, sports in this state in ways that have never been done before in this area.”
A Louisville attorney and founder of www.KentuckySportsRadio.com in October 2005, Jones is the second hire made by cn|2. Former Lexington Herald-Leader political reporter Ryan Alessi joined cn|2 in May and has already started the new cn|2 Politics site, politics.mycn2.com. Alessi’s news and politics-focused television program will also begin this Fall.
Keller continued, “When it comes to the best commentators and on-air talent, we’re building the ‘A-Team’ here at cn|2. Ryan represents the best in political journalism and Matt is the voice of the Big Blue Nation.
“We understand sports is a way of life in this area. cn|2 sports programming is going to provide a wide array of opinions and viewpoints that’s why we’re currently evaluating even more sports programming and staffing options that will serve the interests of fans of other sports programs in the markets we serve, especially the University of Louisville. As the Official Advanced Communications Partner to the KFC-Yum! Center, Insight understands how important UofL is to fans in this area.”
More than 600,000 Insight customers now receive cn|2 on channel 2 of the Insight lineup in the Louisville, Northern Kentucky, Lexington, Evansville and Bowling Green markets. Currently on air as a 24-hour all-weather channel that provides up-to-the-minute, in-depth coverage of the most reliable local forecasts, customers receive local weather forecasts round-the-clock, every 10 minutes, starting at the top of the hour. cn|2 will continue to provide weather 24 hours a day, however, the format will be altered slightly when the political and sports programming begin in the months to come.
“The fact is that our customers don’t get their news and opinions in the same old way they used to. There is a new day dawning in the type of information our customers are looking for and the various ways they receive it. cn|2 is being built to fill that void,” concluded Keller.
