Moments ago, John Hardin giant Matt Elam announced that will take his official visit to Kentucky on December 14th. The five-star defensive tackle is down to six schools (Kentucky, Alabama, Ohio State, Louisville, Tennessee, and Notre Dame) and will take his official visit to Notre Dame on October 19th when they place USC.

Elam will announce his decision on January 4th at the US Army All-American game, which Drew Barker will also play in. The fact that he’s planning his official visit to UK so late seems to be a good sign for the Cats, especially since he’ll most likely take a few unofficials to UK during the season as well. During one of this recent diaries, Drew Barker said he’s very confident Elam will end up a Cat.

Come on down and be a hero.

    Really hope we get him.

  2. Another Wiggins?

He will be disliked like Wiggins after all the hype, if he doesn’t commit…

Just let the circus end already. It’s ridiculous that he’s still got an “official visit” to take, considering he’s had an all-access pass to UK…including their locker rooms and facilities…ever since he came on the scene. And yes, #2, he will indeed be treated like Wiggins….likely worse…if he goes elsewhere, and it will be deserved.

Does UK have a home basketball game that weekend?

Come on down and sit on the couch with the rest of the team. Don’t worry they won’t be practicing then, their season will long be over. No bowl games to worry about. Nothing to get in the way of your visit, like what would happen at the other programs.

@ #3, by letting the “circus” continue, he is adding hype to himself which is great publicity for our program WHEN he commits. He needs to wait until the US Army All-American game to announce. Imagine how much impact it will have when he has tOSU, Notre Dame and Bama hats on the table and he picks up the blue hat with UK.

Nothing sells playing football at Kentucky like going to a basketball game 🙂

I don’t dislike Wiggins. He’s just more irrelevant now is all. He’ll likely drop out of the #1 spot in the draft in my opinion solely because he didn’t choose UK.

agree with #6, also … the better football recruits are used to committing on tv during these all-star games … if we’re going to get better recruits, get used to this! he is NOT creating a “circus”, this is normal … what else do you want from the guy, he set an announcement date for the middle of his senior year in high school and is keeping to it, it’s a great stage for the young guy

Amen #6, 12. Let these guys be high school teenagers. I want as many good recruits as the next UK fan, but obsessing over when a kid commits and who won’t play at any college for another year is just misplaced angst. Whenever you’re ready Mark, c’mon down. Until then, enjoy your senior year.

@5 UofL is on his list as a common courtesy & nothing more. He, along with every other intelligent human being know UofL will be back to mediocrity as soon as Teddy B is gone & he sure doesn’t want any part of that or UofL’s thug program.

For those of you who live in the Louisville area and would, like myself, like to go see Matt play this season, we have several opportunities. John Hardin High plays @ Seneca 8-23, @ PRP 9-20, @ the mighty Iroquois Raiders 9-27, @ J-Town 10-11 and @ Western High on 11-1. I will try to make some of these games, and….. I’ll be wearing my UK shirts. Go Cats!!! Let’s get Matt Elam on board in January.
