I am at the office and can’t call in, but I had two things I wanted to throw out there today: (1) The Old Crow Medicine Show concert last night at the Palace was fantastic and a UK/UofL battle about broke out at one point. The band mentioned the Cards of course once – cheers from the crowd. Later, they mentioned the Kentucky Wildcats and a large group of cheers broke out, but we were promptly booed by all the UofL fans. But when the booing died down, a very loud chant of “Ooooooohh, C-A-T-S, Cats, Cats, Cats!” broke out for several minutes. I think the Cards fans tried to drown us out, but couldn’t. It was great. Also Old Crow mentioned the Hoosiers at another point and it was nice to hear the entire crowd boo loudly 🙂
(2)I just wanted to thank KSR! The some e-card that you posted yesterday to sponsor the show thread was mine! I did not get to check the website until late yesterday afternoon and was just thrilled to see my e-card on the site. GO CATS!

It seems Peevy is either in denial or he needs to get his facts straight.

“If other schools aren’t selling out, the LSUs of the world and the South Carolinas are having concerns, Tennessee, then you know it’s going to affect us to some level.”

But officials at two of the three SEC schools Peevy mentioned indicated they have not seen a decline in ticket sales this season.

Louisiana State has sold out its season ticket allotment (68,500), said Brian Broussard, an assistant athletic director at the school.

South Carolina is on pace to top its season ticket sales from last season.

Officials from Tennessee did not return phone messages about season ticket figures.”

I say last year was a decent year after losing several key players at different positions including qb and wr..get over yourselves..this team deserves fans who will stick by them thru thick and thin..once ur off the wagon stay off..brooks was 0-4 against Louisville before petrino left..stop pretending brooks’ cats were blazing a trail thru the sec ranks and that joker led em to the sec basement.

isn’t it telling that UK football fans who would support a glorified Div-III team going 1-10 or 2-9 every year selling every game, all of a sudden giving up? The super die-hards will always be there, but this decrease in season ticket renewals is staggering. The true story will be told with how full the stadium is after the first few games.

Again… Joker Phillips is NOT the man for the job. The same way Mike Pratt came in your office and said “This isn’t gonna work” about Billy Gillispie. Certainly not comparing Joker Phillips to Billy Clyde, because it’s obvious that Joker is a great guy… but its fairly easy to see the similarities in the job performance… Phillips is NOT going to win on the field, and it’s apparent that he’s not doing much to save himself off the field, either. We should’ve made the change this offseason, because we know it’s going to happen sooner or later. At least start building for the future with a fresh start. Kentucky is reaping what they sew.

Matt you’re looking at this wrong. The 27% of people who gave up the seats like that caller who’s “tired” aren’t just tired of losing SEC games. Theyre tired of watching boring football. Theyre tired of Joker throwing a 3 yard screen on Every. Single. Third. Down. They’re tired of 690 to 90 yards of offense. It’s not that missing the bowl last year was the worst thing in the world, it’s that the team was barely competitive even in the games they managed to win. It’s one thing to be a bad football program in a hard conference, but it’s something else entirely to put out a sad, technically inept, boring and ultimately demoralizing and unwatchable product on the football field week after week and year after year.

Joker doesn’t need to be out in public hyping the football team. He needs to win the game on September 2.

Last year he hyped the team endlessly, and expectations were set WAY too high. Win the game against Louisville, then hype the team for season ticket sales.

I think the real deal is that there is not a player that is the face of the program, in the past years there have been players to watch. Who is it this year or last year even? We need an exciting player to get behind

I think the biggest think UK football fans look for (and to some extent its true with basketball) is a coach who is outgoing even when things are going bad. Cal is the perfect salesman for the basketball program. We need a coach who is on the bull horn screaming from the mountain tops like you mentioned. Joker may respond to his team in private and from all reports, they love him. BUT we as a fan base need more than that. We want someone who will come out and talk the talk. James Franklin is a great example at Vandy. He has that swagger and isn’t afraid to show it in the media.

THe fans are not wrong for doing what they did with the tickets, I too, would LOVE for the AD to do SOMETHING, sell bigger Hotdogs, I don’t care but do something to get our attention, and to get this program to a higher level. Pay the fans back for SO MANY YEARS OF SUPPORT, give them some effort, maybe instead of the billboards saying #weareuk, maybe they should say, #weareukandwelovebeingjustokinfootball.

2 reasons people follow UK Football: 1. Tailgaiting and 2. Hope. The internet and information has educated the UK fan base to know why we aren’t winning (i.e. bad recruiting base, money in facilities, etc…) and so the once blind hope is now gone. The sad thing is that now that loss of hope is trumping the tailgating experience.

so, my comment won’t be announced on the radio, but I think many fans have finally figured out that eaking out wins against Western Kentucky-type teams isn’t good enough for an SEC team. Brooks made some headway, and Joker appears to have frittered it all away. It feels like Bill Curry is back at the helm. And a lot of us aren’t having it. Joker was made Head Coach In Waiting. That title means something. It means he keeps it going forward, and he hasn’t done that. I’ve been following UK football for30 years, and I’m sick of taking one step forward and two steps back. Joker was put in place to preventthat, and it hasn’t happened. I think that’s a lot of where they lost folks over the last two years.

Last year it was, that is for sure. A lot of that last year was due to all the dropped passes. The play calling did not really change. Matt, you keep dropping in remark’s about nothing but little swing passes. Just remember that year before last in Joker’s first year as head coach, UK averaged 31 points a game and made play’s because we had guy’s like Cobb, Lock and Chris Matthews that were making play’s. When Joker was offensive co-ordinater we had a good offense because we had guy’s making play’s. People need to think about this and quit thinking that every year was like last season. If I remember right in Joker’s first year as head coach, we ranked second in the SEC on total offense.

Tim- 4 lb’s gone and they took 400 tackles with them. Same, under-performing d-line. All your hopes are in Bud Dupree’s basket, and I’m not so sure he’s good for a couple hundred tackles.

I’ll be more than happy to take your money if you so choose to place it where your mouth is located.

Matt, I think the embarrassment factor from last season has much to do with this drop in sales. Also, lots of us over 50 are tired, literally, of tailgating, the entire exercise. That big screen and comfortable chair with friends just makes more sense. Thanks

Should UK change their football scheduling? Rather than scheduling Louisville and three cupcakes in order to get 6 or 7 wins and a mediocre bowl game, should UK schedule more home and homes with schools with UCLA, IU, UNC, Duke, etc. in order to make for a more appealing season ticket package, even if it means no bowl game?

210 there were so many tackles last year cause the defense was on the Field most of the time cause the offense couldnt move the ball cause we only had one wr who could catch on regular basis. we have always had good linebacker and the next ones are just as good

Louisville football had 1 more win than UK last year. But to their fans it felt like 8-4.. UK football needs creativity. Saw a flash of It against Tennessee w/ Roark. The 27% will be upset this year.. Joker knows he’s up against It, wait and see..

Tim- and how many came from a position other than those occupied by the team’s 4 leading tacklers? If there were so many tackles to go ’round, why did just those 4 soak thm all up?

I mean, I know why. Do you, Mr. I know Football?
