Mark Stoops responds to older brother’s criticism of the SEC

Who knew today would be “defend the SEC” day?

It’s been three weeks since Bob Stoops threw salt on the SEC’s dominance of college football, and his younger brother Mark is finally ready to respond. To refresh: Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops said that he’s tired of hearing people rave about how the SEC’s the best conference in the country, and that anything suggesting that is merely “propoganda”:

“So they’ve had the best team in college football. They haven’t had the whole conference. Because, again, half of ‘em haven’t done much at all. I’m just asking you. You tell me. …So you’re listening to a lot of propoganda that gets fed to you. Again, you can look at the top two, three, four, five, six teams, and you can look at the bottom six, seven, eight, whatever they are. How well are they doing?”

As the new head coach of one of those bottom teams, younger brother Mark responded to his brother’s words at the SEC Media Days in Destin: “Our league– we don’t have to answer to that. Our league speaks for itself.

With a few more big recruiting classes, Kentucky football will speak for itself, too.

UK football will ALWAYS lag FAR behind such better universities as Ohio State

My guess is a few more big recruiting classes and UK will be looking for anther coach! That’s ok if Stoops can lead UK back to respectability he should get a better job.

Stoops played his comment pretty cool. Stoops is going to put Kentucky on the map and bring us a winner. The fans will pack the house because we are hungry for a winner.

    Love the Attitude

The SEC had 6 teams finish the season in the top 10 in the nation. So, the 6th place team in the SEC was still top 10 in the country.

Mrs TT is the worst writer here. This article is worthless. Bob Stoops said that 3 weeks ago and your article is all about a two sentence ho-hum response. Slow news day or just not creative enough to think of something better?

Go back into the kitchen, make me a sandwich, and leave the sports writing to the men.

Hey Duke Sucks…If Coach Stoops does what he is planning on doing and the university is willing to pay him the money(they will) , maybe there isn’t a better job out there worth leaving for..

I agree with 8, if Stoops turns UK into a contender, why would he wanna leave?
Unless somebody like Bama or LSU comes calling, why? He’d be coaching an SEC team with excellent new connections.

11 and 8. I think all would agree Cal left a better team at Memphis then he came into at UK. Same thing with UK football, we are all fans of UK, but in the grand scheme of things UK is a second tier job at best. Regardless of what type of team UK has several schools are a better job! I don’t think Stoops will move laterally , but make no mistake UK isn’t a destinion football job!

My comment is, How can the bottom half be GREAT when they have to play the top half. The bottom half is going to have 3-5 probable losses every year by the top half. It’s called MATHEMATICS!!! Bob Stoops forgot that.
