Mark Stoops bought a house

Mark Stoops and his family have finally put down their roots in Lexington. According to The Herald-Leader, Stoops bought a house in the Beaumont neighborhood for $1.45 million. The 9,000 square foot house has five bedrooms, 6½ bathrooms, a Jacuzzi, an elevator, a wood deck and a 2,499-square-foot finished basement, including a theater room. The home also backs up to a walking trail.

It’s the third-highest single-family home sale in Lexington in the past year, behind UK Hoops coach Matthew Mitchell’s purchase of Rick Pitino’s former home for $2.06 million. John Calipari’s still got the most expensive house in the athletic department; in 2009, he bought his house on Richmond Road and an adjoining lot for $2.3 million.

Let us know when we can come over for a movie and a soak, Coach.

Only in Lexington and with UK sports that a purchase of a home is so newsworthy. Call me underwhelmed by this information. Sounds like a great home and congratulations to him and his family for achieving success to obtain this home.

If the house came with 300+ acres of land I might consider paying that for it. And it’s maybe 40 feet from another house….ridiculous

#4: I hope you’re kidding about the no garage. See those cars on the far right? See those curiously frosted front windows? There’s your garage.

It’s still an ugly McMansion, but good on Coach Stoops for making it to the big leagues. Given his recruiting chops, he won’t be home much anyway!

#9 It does look like a garage, but it doesn’t match his house. That garage is white brick. Even if it is his garage, not attached to the house. Don’t know much about Mrs. Stoops, but my wife wouldn’t like to be out in the weather given the ammount of money spent

#10 it’s all relative. You make $3.5 million per year and spend $1.45 million on your house, that is less than half your annual income. Now you may make $100,000 per year. I doubt you are living in a $40,000 house. So how is this frivolous and irrational? Truth is you just can’t relate.

28.agreed. 4 is a typical tool. The house has an attached garage if anyone bothered to look it up on houses for sale. But no, some would rather knock the success of others, rather than go out and make it on their own. Chances are they have a free phone and free ride off of those of us that work for a living too.

  36. 12, I agree, he should buy what he wants. But I’m with 6…if I’m paying that kind of jack for a house I’d want a little land with it. It looks like Stoops is as close to his neighbor as I am to mine in my simple little house. But, to each his own!

McMansion? the house is custom designed, 3 car garage & there’s 4 floors… not one. but I see where you could get confused since your simple mind probably can only afford 1. plus who the hell cares? you got money for an elevator. mark stoops hats off. the home is beautiful *got a big house came with an elevator* lil Wayne voice. now trolls, swerve.

To clear up confusion, everyone is wrong on the details. The house is 100% finished 4 floors kitchenettes and fire places in every room. There is an elevator, there is a 3 car garage on the side of the house. The garage doors are not white they are all wood which myches yhe house perfectly. The house is on a 1 acre lot. You cannot see the back yard from this view but it is huge. The house is not 9,00 square feet it is 11,000 sq ft plus some. No need to be so hateful about such a nice house.

beauty is surely in the eye of the beholder, some think this is a great house, some not so much, i doubt however that Mr. Mark Stoops had much concern…i suspect Mrs. Stoops did more. he bought a big house, big deal. people are certainly allowed to think it’s not the pinnacle of design, as are those who think it is awesome

Lost in the discussion is that this home is in the hands-down best school district in the city. Assuming he intends to send his kids to public school, this area is his very best choice.

Maxwell Elementary is amazing as well, but the middle and high schools from that district are not as strong as Beaumont Middle and PLD.

Coaches need big houses because they will invite the players for some occasions. Football coaches definitely need bigger houses than basketball coaches.
If you make 100,000 a year, you would buy a house somewhere between 300,000 to 500,000. He makes 3.5MM a year and purchased a 1.45MM house. It is very reasonable. Don’t criticize his purchase just because it is totally out of your range. I question somebody goes to play golf with a famous pro golfer using tax payers’ money when the country is in a huge debt.
