Marcus Lee’s brother speaks on his recruitment

Drew brought our attention yesterday to 2013 power forward Marcus Lee, whose recruiting is essentially down to a battle between two Cals.  After cutting several elite programs from his list, and also Louisville, Lee is now left with his hometown Cal, or the glitz and glamour of Lexington and the University of Kentucky.

Zagsblog got a hold of Marcus Lee’s brother, Brian, late last night to check in on the decision-making process.

“While Cal[ifornia] is comfortable he may have a bigger impact because there aren’t four All-Americans around him.  Kentucky is unfamiliar and a bigger stage. Both are great opportunities, though.”

Can’t fault a kid for thinking about staying close to home.  Brian may or may not have been taking a small job at California with the comment about the lack of All-Americans that would be around Marcus should he enroll.

But while Brian is staying neutral (at least publicly) on Marcus’ recruitment, Cal commit Jabari Bird is anything but.

“I’m definitely trying to get [Lee and Aaron Gordon] now.  Hopefully, they can be Cal Bears with me. For the most part, both Marcus and Aaron liked the visit a lot. I’m just trying to build on that with them, so I can convince them to come to school with me.”

I’m not saying that Derek Willis should make a phone call to do a little peer-recruiting, but I’m not saying he shouldn’t, either.

Marcus Lee is one of a few 2013 forwards considering UK, along with Julius Randle, Jabari Parker, Trey Lyles, and Aaron Gordon.  Personally, I like them all, and am excited to see who pulls the trigger first.  Even as Lee decides between the two Cals, others may preempt him and commit first.  Plenty of those players can coexist, but he may have to decide sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, he’ll be at Big Blue Madness on the 12th.  Hopefully he’ll be a gentleman and save a seat for the Harrisons, because it looks like it’s going to get pretty crowded.  Ultimately, though, Brian says the decision is still wide open.  “It changes every few days.  It’s a tougher decision than most think. He likes both situations.”  We’ll see if that opinion’s the same on October 13th.

Not to be the guy that only wants to rip on mistakes, but Trey Lyles is 2014 bud.

If he is 50/50 now, he will probably be 99.9/.1 after he experiences Big Blue Madness, hangs with the players, check out the new crib! Boom!

I’ll take him! I saw some people yesterday saying hes not good enough since he’s “only” a top 15 recruit instead of top 10. Kid can ball though. If Randle comes im automatically assuming we dont get aaron gordon so having Lee would be great. Twins, Randle, Jimmy Young, and Lee would be a killer class.

And Yes, Trey Lyles is 2014.

His brother is leading the recruitment and it looks like he doesn’t want him overshadowed by other all-americans. He is not a 1-and-done so that aspect of UK ball doesn’t appeal to him. He’s a long-term developmental project that would probably be recruited over at UK. Think we’ll be fine without him, and I think he’s a heavy California lean.

Isn’t it great to not have to worry about it? We know we’ll be good either way. So much better than ’05-’08.

You guys worry too much about a one and done. When I was recruiting Bledsoe he wasn’t a one and done either. Sit back and let me go to work like I have in the past. No worries!! Go Cats!! This is for you #6

So many factual inaccuracies and typos in this post. Hard to take this writer serious when he clearly doesn’t have a clue about what’s going on.

I dont see anything anywhere about Trey Lyles reclassifying or being in the 2013 class.

Noah Vonleh did reclassify from 2014′ to 2013′ but haven’t seen anything about Lyles Reclassifying.

This kid I’d good , but Randle is the man I would rather have. I think he will be a better collage player then wiggens, Parker or anyone else. I’m talking NCAA time only not who will be the best pro which no dought Wiggens.
