Marcus Lee set to announce on Wednesday

Fox Sports’ Evan Daniels reports that 2013 F Marcus Lee will announce where he’ll play college ball tomorrow. Lee was at Big Blue Madness last week and reportedly fell in love with Kentucky. He was set to visit California, the other major player for his services, this weekend, but has since cancelled that visit. Adding Lee would make Calipari’s already historic 2013 class even more ridiculous.

Well this is almost as obvious as James Young. If he was going to commit to Cal he would’ve taken one more visit beforehand and wouldn’t have posted all those UK pictures.

    Next up Wiggins or Randle.

    3 Star is a project.

…and Willie Cauley-Stein was a project a year ago, too. Lee is very athletic and perfect for Cal’s offense and defense of getting up and down the floor. #24, at what ranking do you consider a prospect “elite?” Where is that clear demarcation of which you are apparently so knowledgable.

I think randle is very interested in kentucky but i don’t think he’ll come. But I think that would increase our chance for wiggins if he reclassifies.

  33. pioneer

The recruiting experts on this comment section are amazing. Everyone is a source…. This kid is ranked in the top 30 overall, then he is definately not a project. Julius Randle and Marcus Lee will be able to co exist. Andrew Wiggins is probably not reclassifying. And if you guys didnt know, we didnt beat Kansas for the championship, they just ran out of time.

Lee is an elite prospect! Poythress also wasn’t ranked as high between his junior and senior year until the senior season started. I trust Cal and am very excited to have a potentially one and done prospect like Lee. Now, we just need Gordon and Randle and we’ll be unstoppable.

Wow, well, cancelling your next visit right after coming to Big Blue Madness is rather telling. Not quite as big a lock as Young was, but certainly looks good for us, eh?

3 straight weeks with top 40 commits (to include all 3 major services), total of 4 players. Just wow. No way that’s happened before.

Any chance Randle or Wiggins accelerate their time tables because of how quick this class is coming together?

  42. Han
    8:17 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

    22) Current Rivals has him 15, ESPN is like 28 and Scout is like 38. Still top 40 on all of them, and he’d be the lowest of the major recruits we’d have (not counting Willis).

  43. bmt22033
    8:19 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

I can’t believe that a commitment from Lee would have any impact on Julius Randle. That’s not a knock on Marcus Lee but more a testament to Julius Randle’s level of talent. If Randle were to pick UK, he’d almost certainly start over Marcus Lee. Personally, I have to agree with #32 in that I believe Kentucky to be the leader for Randle (currently). Who knows if it will stay that way but I certainly hope so.

If Randle wants to win a championship, then he’ll come to UK, its as simple as that. He knows of the recruiting class we already have and he knows that if he committed that UK would be the clear favorite for the championship in 2013-2014.

  54. Badams
    9:04 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

Lee needs to work on his offense but he is a defensive presence known for blocking shots and rebounding. He has a long history with the Harrison twins…he will be a Cat. He is not a project and if you think he’ll be around 3 years, then you’re nuts. I wouldn’t expect him to be a one and done, but you never know with Cals ability to develop players. As for the comment about Derek Willis, Cal wanted this kid for a reason. No he won’t sniff the floor his freshmen year, but he will be a 3, 4 year player and will benefit from playing against the best every day ala Josh Harrellson.

  55. Jen
    9:27 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

You people are delusional, Project? Marcus Lee averaged 13pts, 13rebs, 9blks and 2ast in JR year of HS. He is exactly the type of player that will compliment these other stars. Randle and him can co-exist because if Cal gets Randle he will play the five alongside Lee at the four. Not freaking rocket science. Cal is recruiting as if nobody is coming back it seems, Randle and/or Gordon is waiting for the spring to see what Noel/Wiltjer/WCS do. This will be last commit until the spring and if one or two of the bigs stays and Wiggins don’t reclassify then it could be the last commit of the class! I am excited about Marcus Lee and BBN should be too!

  56. gog8ors
    9:29 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

Told you folks that Randle isn’t coming to UK, this ought to convince you that Calipari knew that too. Lee is gonna pick UK and he wouldn’t do that if he was going to be competing for playing time with Randle. Don’t even try to convince yourselves that they could co-exist, it isn’t happening, wake up and smell the coffee. Kiss Randle goodbye, at least you will get to see him twice a season when you play Florida.

  58. UKBlue1!
    9:52 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

Twins,Young,Lee and Randle. Combined with 2 or 3 from this years team and Wiggins. This could be one of the greatest teams ever. Noel, Poythress and Harrow all are probably going to the draft.

  59. CATS
    10:03 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

#55 – How can Lee and Randle not co-exist, but Walker and Randle can? It actually seems less likely that Walker/Randle could co-exist than Lee/Randle. If Randle chooses UK or Florida, Lee and Walker will play more of a center role while Randle will be the PF. If Randle can co-exist with Walker, he could easily co-exist with Lee.

  60. Badams
    11:01 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

55, roasted by 58 lmao Lee is more of a center than a pf and Randle won’t be competing with anyone for playin time, he starts from day one. Cal has been on Lee hard and it’s been no secret. Randle is not goin to Florida, get it out of your head. They will be of the next schools cut.

  61. Badams
    11:03 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

Also 55, see Bledsoe and Wall as Cal making players co-exist. It will happen and Randle knows that. Lee wants to play with the twins and Cal never promises any recruit anything. So your statement is crap.

  62. Kyle
    11:06 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

@58 you beat me to it. Actually I think it would be harder to play with Walker just because I think he is more about himself but why gog8ors doesn’t realize how loaded their front court is going to be is blowing me away but he has been in here saying silly stuff for awhile and he has been mostly wrong

  63. Are You Serious??
    11:06 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

Good God!! This is insane!! I can’t wait! I just REALLY hope we can still pick up Julius Randle! I think we have a better shot at picking up Randle than Florida, but what if Randle decides to do something similar to Shabazz and go somewhere (neither UK or Florida) where he will be the biggest star? I mean, I know he said he would be perfectly fine with playing with Harrison twins, and he think they would most likely win a lot/win a national championship, and I’m sure does care about teamwork and isn’t super selfish, but he probably also still cares about his draft stock (like any top recruit does, and should to a decent degree).

  64. Linda Taylor
    11:17 pm October 16, 2012 Permalink

62 – Remember Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist proved that sharing the ball and taking the fewest shots of the 5 starters did not have a bad effect on draft status.

  65. CATS
    12:12 am October 17, 2012 Permalink

I just read Marcus Lee averaged 9.1 blocks per game! That’s insane! I understand he is 6’9 and blocking is a specialty of his, but still 9 blocks per game is pretty crazy.

Randle will not start at KY anyway. Wiljer is a 3 or 4 year player and I don’t see any of these players other then Wiggins starting over Kyle. WCS will be back and more the likely Goodwin too. We very well could have the best team ever put together next year.

  67. CATS
