It’s official. Kentucky was left out of the NCAA tournament’s field of 68 for the first time since 2009 (and for only the 2nd time since the 1991-1992 sanctions). The 21-11 (12-6 in the SEC) Wildcats likely saw the bubble burst with a loss to Vanderbilt on Friday night in the SEC tournament quarterfinals. Kentucky’s resume’ left them squarely on the bubble, and the 4-4 record without Nerlens Noel (including wins over Florida and Missouri) wasn’t enough to push them over the edge.
Kentucky will now have to wait to figure out its fate until 9 p.m. tonight on ESPNU when the NIT brackets are revealed. That hurt to type.
