Marcelys Jones to visit Kentucky

Earlier today, we told you about Marcelys Jones, a 6’5″ 325 lbs. offensive lineman committed to Ohio State. Jones picked up an offer from the Cats this morning and according to Rivals’ Justin Rowland, he is “very interested” in Kentucky and will visit soon. In fact, Jones told Rowland that Kentucky is the next visit he will take and that he has a lot of respect for Vince Marrow, the Cats’ lead recruiter and Tight Ends Coach.

24/7 Sports ranks Jones the 92nd best overall recruit in the 2014 class, the eight best offensive guard in the nation, and the third best player in the state of Ohio. He also has offers from Alabama, Florida State, Maryland, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State and UCLA, among others.

Bout damn time UK recruited hard in Ohio. I live two miles from that state and their football is outstanding. Who else besides Ohio State gets the best talent. You want to play in the best conference and want Mom and Dad and friends to be able to come to games you have an advantage. All we ever heard before was about down south how we had to go against everyone else in the SEC and all we could get were some three and two stars to develop. Get’em Stoops and Harrow

#2) Harrow would have to speak in a “huskier tone” to recruit that dude!!

Who would have ever thought UK would finally have a coaching staff with the balls to go after an OSU commit that was from Ohio?! Love it!

Wasn’t to long ago people were making excuses on WHY Uk couldn’t recruit. I love making the people who has an excuse on WHY Uk can never win eat crow. Isn’t the name on the jersey anymore its the coach on the sideline that gets the kids interested in the program. Saban could go to MTSU and recruit a top 20 class

This would be huge!!! One of the top high school programs in the state of Ohio every year. Would love to get one out from under Urban (especially since he said he will own Ohio in recruiting)

#7 Stoops thus far has proven that he can’t win……and proven he can’t lose. Most coaches with a 0-0-0 for their career haven’t yet proved they can win either. #cartbeforethehorse

Ohio State recruits need to go slumming every now and then. This way they can see how a low level program compares to a BCS program and so they can hear the chirping of the crickets in a stadium with 30,000 fans compared to one with 105,000 screaming fans. Both Urban Meyer and Stoops haven’t lost a game at their new programs yet. The difference is that Urban has already coached a season at his.

This is Stoops playing the game and guys who respect him and Marrow helping them out and elevating UK’s exposure on the recruiting trails. Don’t get your hopes up on Jones leaving OSU for UK, but appreciate that he’s taking the time to listen to UK, list them and give them exposure. It legitimizes UK’s program and also helps build relations for future classes. Even if there’s a minuscule chance he ends up at UK it’s still a great move by Stoops & Co.

If you want to equate it to basketball recruiting, it’s like the Harrison twins listing SMU in their schools or Harrison Barnes listing Iowa St. It’s out of respect and sort of a “favor” to help those coaches.

Of course, I’d love to end up being wrong but don’t see that happening.

He goes to Glenville. If OSU wants him, OSU will get him. Glenville, arguably the most athletic program in OH, is coached by Ted Ginn Sr. and is an OSU feeder program.

Well, CRAP. It’s not like Ky fans have had to put up with UL & IU idiots trying to stake out receding ground before it disappears for 25 more years, now UK football has to deal with OSU anxieties? Pigskin envy in motion?

I will say one thing, the way our new coaching staff is recruiting Ohio anything is possible. I bet Cornhuskers couldnt believe they would lose a 4* recruit to lowly UK. GBB!!!

11)And you still play football in the Big Ten. Maybe he would like a chance to compete against the best players in the nation instead of a bunch of over rated mid majors.

    16. Santa Claws, that had to be the dumbest point ever made. Let me get this straight, by your logic Penn State basketball, which won only one game in the Big Ten this year, is better than UK? They must be since they are the worst team in the best basketball conference, right? Why would basketball recruits want to come to UK, when they can play basketball at Penn State in the best conference in the land, even if they lose.

Got one from Nebraska, got one from USC, got ZaDarius Smith from Texas, Florida and must not be possible to get one from Bucknut State.

I love the temerity shown by Stoops and Co. I have two words for anyone who thinks he can’t go into hostile territory and sign a great player…..Jason Hatcher!

    Go get ’em Coach!

Maybe he really dislikes Coach Ginn, and therefore won’t be feeder for his program…just saying that these things can be a lot more complex than we, the generally uninformed masses, know.

This kid is the best high school lineman since Jamon Brown of Fern Creek. I’ve coached high school football in Jefferson Co. for over 40 years and on film he looks fantastic. Besides outstanding strength, size, great feet and good speed, he playes every play until the wistle. Congrats to Coach Stoops and his staff. One word of caution. A lot of these kids play thje reruiting game to the hilt. They want to be wanted and told how great they are. Almost every recruit is like this at every school. Don’t let the hype exceed unrealistic expectations like the basketball team this year..
