Malik Newman is Thursday’s MVP

Malik Newman is the real deal and he removed any and all doubts this morning in his first game at the Nike Peach Jam. Newman scored 40 points against Houston Hoops, a team featuring Kelly Oubre Jr., who recently received a scholarship offer from John Calipari and Kentucky.

It did take 28 of his team’s 59 shot attempts, but Newman’s 40 points are his highest point total of the EYBL circuit. He entered the Peach Jam averaging 24.5 per game.

Newman takes on Jahlil Okafor and Cliff Alexander in tonight’s marquee game, arguably one of the biggest of the tournament. KSR plans to live blog the game at 9:00 ET assuming Frank Haith doesn’t invite us out for cocktails first.

Talk to you then.
