MacKenro Alexander doesn’t think much of UK

In a recent interview with Clemon’s Rival site, three-star safety MacKenro Alexander of the famed Alexander twins had a somewhat tepid reaction to their visit to Kentucky a few weeks ago:

“UK was alright. I just hung out. I’m not taking them serious anyway.”

Well then.

Not to bash him, because bashing 18 year olds is just ignorant, but wasn’t he the one who wouldnt have been eligible for UK anyway? Just curious and if anyone knows, would be great if you post it.

And they only reason this kid was invited, and is being recruited by big name schools, is because of his brother anyway. Keep riding his coat tails. Follow your brother to a big name school, watch him become a star as you ride the pine. Good luck with that….punk.

This was printed Jan 2nd he isn’t exactly saying he is really interested in uk to begin with but still made a visit. You guys can’t hang on to every word these kids say. Plus in the article above he gives Rutgers a lot of love but in another article at a later date they eliminate Rutgers all together. It just depends on who they are talking to.

Most of these high-level 3 & 4 star recruits we see visiting now are doing so out of respect for the coaching staff, not out of real interest. Our coaches were able to get in on these guys and build relationships at their previous schools because the football programs were elite. Almost none of these current recruits will sign with Kentucky and our coaching staff will not be able to build relationships with very many elite players in the future as Kentucky coaches. The recruiting we are seeing now and the visits is nothing but smoke and mirrors. It will not be sustained recruiting as Kentucky coaches.

@17. While I agree many of these high level recruits are coming to visit because of the staff and that part of this is to establish a relationship with power high school programs, I must contradict your point that they will “never” attend UK. The only way to change the atmosphere is to take some chances and shoot for higher aspirations. I think this is what this hire has been about.

DUDE IS FROM IMMOKALEE FLORIDA, being in Lexington must have felt like he was vacationing in French Polynesia. Seriously though, I’ve done habitat houses in Immokalee, it is quite literally HELL on earth. Crime is ridiculous, only way out is through sports (see Edge James). Lets hope this 3* player finds a softer place to land, but I think he should appreciate every opportunity someone gives him to get out of the Hell hole of Immokalee.

I wonder how many times our fans have driven someone away by leaving a bad taste in their mouth with the way they whine about a HS kids decision. Hope ya’ll get some perspective.

I agree with #17. You all get excited by these visits from higher rated (and sometimes not highly rated) players thinking that these players are truly interested in coming to UK for football. Many of these kids are probably using these trips to hang out at different schools for a good time. I wouldn’t turn any school down if they were going to pamper me on a visit. Don’t be mad at the kid…he’s just one of the few “recruits” who is actually being honest about their intentions.

Regardless of his real talent vs. his own perception of his talent, why get so mad at the kid? Like others said, he’s being honest. Since when did that become a bad thing? And don’t tell me it’s the tone you perceived him using. He’s a high school kid, you can’t expect him to have the tact and wisdom of a 40 year old successful contributor to society.

I woiuldn’t get too wound up about people like #17. Yes our team is historically bad, yes we always get excited and ultimately disappointed by each new FB coach; but, in the past I don’t remember getting the current level of recruits to even come visit campus. There’s a different kind of excitement about this coach and he’s already got commitments from higher level players than the previous coaching staff.

I’m sure somewhere in the Vandy and Ole Miss fanbases there is a version of #17 who is having to keep a low profile while he shoves down a plate of crow.

I wish the kid luck. He was just being honest. You cannot fault that. What is worse is when kids say they are leaning towards your school and then pick another. We find out later they were never really considering UK. That to me is worse. If that town in Florida is that crime ridden then I do wish him luck landing somewhere.

That’s yet to be seen. And yes, part of this is because these coaches were in on them from other schools, but they don’t owe anything to Neal Brown, or Mark Stoops, or anyone. They don’t have to look here. And you have other kids like Hytche (sp?), Smith and a few kids who chose UK without ever really being around our program, so your point isn’t correct – there are kids who are signing here. How about Javess Blue? Kid was #11 on ESPN’s JUCO board. Bradley, a 4 star DT had us deep. Hatcher is seriously considering UK.

Stoops and CO are good recruiters and honestly it’s tough to dispell that. If we can get a Timmons, a Kemp and one of a possible Hatcher/McWilson/Samples flip you’ve got nothing to stand on. And that’s not that outside of the box. Kids aren’t going to come to UK based on “respect” for their coaches and screw up their lives if they’re not buying into what we’re selling, simple as that.

These kids only get 5 “official” visits. To get one of those 5 is major. If Stoops and company can do this with little to sell right now? Wonder what they’ll be able to do after some success? The headway into Ohio is huge, and Florida?! Times are changing. And UL has to to our place, and play the 3rd game! Good luck brothers.
