Louisville fans helping UK in the recruitment of Matt Elam

Class of 2014 football recruit Matt Elam is considering Kentucky and Louisville for college, but the Louisville fan base didn’t do itself any favors on social media yesterday. Elam, who was wearing a UK sweatshirt when the UofL staff visited Monday afternoon, tweeted this late last night:
These Louisville Fans Are Acting Childish That’s Just Wrong. Supposed To Be Inviting And Welcoming In Recruits.

Like If My Mom Were To See That It Would Change Her Mind About UofL. Some People Should Think Before They Speak.

Every fan base has its idiots and Louisville’s idiots are helping Kentucky on the in-state recruiting trail. Nice work, guys.

Every fan base has their pimples, but U of L fans are the *worst*. Even some of my good friends, who happen to be Louisville fans, are some of the absolutely biggest asshats when discussing their team.
fanbases in glass houses shouldn’t cast stones
So If I Write Every Sentence With Every First Letter of Every Word Capitalized That Makes Me Smart And Better Than You. The blue bellies can have this joker, we don’t need him.
This is why adults shouldn’t tweet recruits or players.
Looking forward to not having to see all these UL losers posting on our UK site. You’re a UL fan / student trolling on a UK blog. You are better than no one.
So, I’m kinda new to the area – does UL not have a site like KSR for news and fun? Why do all these UL trolls like 2 & 3 come on here all the time?
Matt you need to put a stop this pleaseeeee! It’s like its a free country or something and people can post anything on the internet that they want too!! I don’t know if I can handle such freedom of expression! Let’s not post on kids twitter pages but we can park our RV’s in front of their High Schools because that’s not creepy at all.
Louisville fans are the best at getting overexcited about nothing.
I would imagine the Louisville Sports Radio site would look like a Geocities site from the late 90’s: scrolling text, blinking neon-colored tags, “under construction” icons, you interwebs old-timers know what I’m talking about.
OK…I’m new to the site. What’s going on with Elam? I love the sweatshirt situation…serves the UL program right…remember the UL recruiter’s hat trick at decision time…well…right back at’cha!! Go Elam!!!
Since the arrival of Stoops we sure have been getting the majority of the kids who have intrest from UK and the school down the road that dosent exist
@9 – I can picture that. I think though, that the site would be call Louisville Sports Daily (LSD) to explain the strange behaviors of the fanbase.
Yea every fan base has idiots but uofl fan base is all idiots. They talk sports out their ass!!
Also we have a lot better food at UK.
for Louisville to be such a big, “progressive” city, their fans are bigger hicks than those in Lexington.
Let me just say this…….we have been known to send crazy things to recruits on social media too. This isn’t a UK thing or a UL thing. That said, its not very smart for UL fans to trash a recruit whose one of the best prospects in the state that Charlie Strong just visited.
That would be like if UK fans had trashed James Quick for wearing UL gear when we were recruiting him last year. Yes, he ended up at UL, but trashing kids on social media is just plain dumb no matter what fanbase you are associated with.
Well done little brother… Well done indeed! Hope they enjoyed their nice little run, cause it’s about to be turned upside down very soon.
Talking trash to any recruit via social media is obviously stupid. But can we stop pretending that there was any chance this kid was going to UofL? Clearly he is a UK fan. Has an offer from UK. Has a better chance at playing at UK sooner. And even if he didn’t choose UK, he has an offer from Bama. UofL had no shot with this kid. He only had UofL on his list because of his respect for Strong or someone in his family is a UofL fan.
I feel like a big enough dork just because I spend countless hours talking about High School aged recruits.
Going to see recruits play in person is the next level of dorkdom. You are still within the bounds of decency, but it is getting a little sketchy. (if you are over age 16 and aren’t getting an autograph for someone under the age of 16, asking for autographs from high school kids takes it up yet another level)
Then, there are people that spend a lot of time on message boards talking about recruits. When I say a lot of time, I mean A LOT of time. You might not be crazy, but it is rubbing against the line.
Then you have the real crazies. They likely do all of the above, but they are also likely to have multiple online personas. They might start arguments with themselves, argue on both sides of an argument just to get attention, attack their own players when they don’t perform to their own crazy standards (not just the random upset Facebook post, but reaching out through social media to belittle the player) and even pose as other teams fans and troll players and recruits to try to sway their decision. Luckily, these people don’t usually have any money, because they would try to pay recruits to attend their favorite school.
REALLY!!! Matt Elam says UofL fans are childish, yet he puts on a UK shirt when the UofL head coach visits him at his high achool. and laughs about it on twitter. Words for matt elam, your now dealing with college programs not high school. you want to act childish now, because once you get the HS diploma……its all about business.
20 – I’m pretty sure he was surprised by Strong’s visit. I doubt he wore the UK sweatshirt to purposely offend.
This should serve as a lesson for all the idiot UK fans who do the exact same stuff. Leave these kids alone, let them make up their mind and go about your own business. At the end of the day, does it really affect your life if he chooses one school over another?
Agree that no fans should tweet any high school players except maybe to congratulate if he signs with your school.
But Elam was wrong to wear the shirt for Strong’s visit. It is disrespectful and defiant for anyone to do that to a coach of a program.
If my son wore a U of L shirt for a visit from a UK coach, I would kick his butt (and yes I am a U of L fan).
20- Right, like when that kid did the hat fake out a few months ago when picking between UK & UofL? You all thought that was hilarious & applauded the kid for an act 100x more childish than what Elam did. You Cards fans think everyone should show respect when dealing with you (why I honestly don’t know) but you disrespect the hell out of us at every opportunity & act like we are making a big deal over nothing. I’m glad Elam did that, it’s about time you all remember your fan base stretches as far as the city limit does within this state.
not at all….the “hat fake” has been done approximately 1 million times at this point…that is completely different-it is just a little drama but no bad intent towards anyone…personally, I think it is pretty silly but it is different from a player doing that when a coach comes to visit…..
23-I live in maysville. and yes I am a UofL fan.
Its obvious coach Strong wants this guy but if he is making a big deal of what anybody says about hi on Twitter, maybe he should stay in high school.
22.) how do we know if the visit was planned or not? Strong could have just been stopping in to check on Elam without telling him considering E town isn’t too far from Louisville.
Go Big Blue
