Louisville comes back against Marquette: Aren’t we getting a little carried away?

Give credit to the Cards.  Coming back from eighteen down against Marquette Saturday is certainly worth acknowledging, even if it did come against a team whose best non-conference win was against Bucknell in the second game of the season.  Rallying from that far back is tough, no doubt, and you’ll never hear me beef with any game that makes Rick Pitino say after the game“I’m shaking still.  That went by so quick.”  So, here’s a half-hearted tip of the hat to you, Louisville fans.  On that day, you almost looked like the basketball team the careless media has numerically deemed you to be.

But, don’t you think you’re getting a little carried away with this?  The ridiculous headlines, the Facebook chest-pounding, and now the “Where were you when…?” stories.  Seriously?  Listen, if you really want to shake the Little Brother label, you have to first stop acting like Little Brother.  Big boys don’t walk around, puffing out their chests and trading stories about where they were when they beat an unranked Marquette team at home in January.  And until you start acting like a big boy, you’re going to sit at the kids table.  And maybe even sleep upstairs with Fuller.

C’mon Cards, act like you’ve been there before.  Just make a t-shirt and call it a day.

Did anyone see the front page of the sports section in the CJ? The UL story and headline was HUGE and took up over half the page. Then there was a tiny blurb about UK game at the bottom in a 4 inch square.

Great comeback for Louisville, it was a game they needed to win. It seems Pitino still has a little magic left.

I don’t get it, how are they ranked in the top 25 when the only “big” they have is against an overrated butler team. They have a good record against a bunch of cupcake teams. Let them have their space in the CJ. Hell, let them have the whole front page. If you continue to look through the CJ you’ll also find a 15 second advertisement for Porcini’s

No one cares about watching us beat up on a JV high school team. So, that’s why they are talking about UofL. Marquette would easily be the best team in the SEC West and likely top 3 in the East. Our conference sucks.

Their comeback at home against a marginal team does not have the ring of a 31 point comeback on the road against LSU.

This win was amazing for the Cards. UK may not have been able to pull off this mighty comeback. I heard coach Cal farts in his sleep. I’ve done some more research on Patrick Patterson’s automobile that his parents supposedly bought him. It turns out it was an American car, and Patrick plays for the Rockets, who have Yao Ming who is from China. I think the Chinese bought Patrick an American car to cover up the fact that they were giving Patrick free air fresheners for his new car (vanilla scented at that!) I think it’s healthy to point out that not everyone likes the scent of vanilla.

Marquette did as much to lose that game in the last 5 minutes as Louisville did to win it. Bad shot after bad shot and nothing you would recognize as an organized defense. The worst play was when they were down 1 with 24 seconds to go and all they had to do was wait for Louisville to start fouling…….instead, some knucklehead drove down to the paint into traffic and threw up a garbage shot that got blocked giving U of L the ball back with 12 seconds to go. All the while with announcer Bill Raftery yelling, “what are you doing, you don’t need it?” Plus, Marquette’s coach never would call time out to calm them down and set up something. Not exactly a stellar performance by that guy.

I give the dirty birds credit. They played it all the way through the game and played scrappy. Marq played not to lose in the end and it came back and bit them. This game could be a lesson for a lot of teams out there…including the CATS. Don’t stop playing hard until the buzzer sounds!

The real story line shouldn’t be that The Cards came back from 18. Anyone that watched the last 5 minutes could tell that Marquette must have forgot the game was 40 minutes. The real story line should have been why Marquette was up 18 to begin with. I mean heck, if you are good enough to come back from 18, you had to be bad enough to get down by 18.

I wish we could get some of the Big East teams in our league. UNranked WVU beats #8 Purdue and we can’t get another team in the top 25 besides Kentucky! WE JUST SUCK! PERIOD.

Bozich & Crawford are homers. UL should have beaten Marquette, they are a bottom tier team in the Big East that has a good year every 3 or 4 years. I didn’t read any of those rediculous articles, so I do not know what they said (headlines were enough). I only caught some of the last 6 minutes of the game, but what I did see was a team that was getting their arse handed to them. I then witnessed a team try to slow down the game and get away from the things that gave them the lead, effectively taking themselves out of the game. Yes, give the Tards some credit for making some shots, but the story was how Marquette played to lose the game. So, yes, the Tards won a game that they should have won to begin with, they have Marquette to thank.

You sound petty and a little jealous. The media overhypes everything, especially in sports. When it’s your rival getting over-hyped, it’s annoying.

But blogging about it shows you’re concerned with what your attitude attempts to infer you aren’t concerned with. Being elitist is a shallow and hateful way to go through life. And the karma it produces perpetuates it.

It was a great comeback, one for the ages. Had it happened to UK, it would be talked about for weeks to come over here.

And to say Marquette is a lower tier Big East school shows your ignorance. They crushed Notre Dame last Monday by 22 at home. They are always tough to beat…just ask Tubby and Keith Bogans.

As usual, the Big East is overrated AGAIN in college basketball. Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame, etc. All overrated. The only reason this conference is held in such high regard is the sheer number of above average teams which makes a lot of road games tough. I have a feeling the Big East will shot it’s true worth by failing again in the tournament. If the Big East was so great they would have at least 2 teams making the final four every year. They have a couple very good teams at the top, but then a lot of just decent teams like the middle of any other conference. They just happen to have more of them.

Lousiville comes back agains Marquette….UK goes to another bowl game. Neither matters. In both cases the fans act like they are big crap. I hate the filthy tards (not the team as much as their fans), but at least they still have a season left to play out. In the case of the UK bowl game, at least the football homers finished off the season knowing how good the team actually was. Warning to the next Randall Cobb — find a different school if you want to win.

I once saw Old Dominion upset top ranked DePaul at the Horizen CEnter in Chicago. ODU came back from 7 down in :21 seconds to beat Mark Aguirre and company. They score 8 points and actually there was enough time left on the clock for DePaul to get off a half court desperation shot. Now THAT was a comeback.

By the way, Didn ‘t UK come from 17 or 18 down against Duke in a NCAA Tournament game in about 3 minutes? I know it wasn’t at the emd of the game but hey, we came back and won the game.

  37. CARDS
    3:19 pm January 17, 2011 Permalink

It doesn’t matter if Marquette was unranked. The reason why cards fans are acting like it’s so special is because they came back from 18 in 5 minutes when we looked awful. We aren’t a very talented team and everyone knows it. Pitino is doing a hell of a job with a not very talented team. And just bc Marquette isn’t ranked doesn’t mean they suck.

And Uk fans stop talking about marquette not being good. You’re in the SEC with one ranked team. YOU. We’re in the BIG EAST with NINE! ranked teams. Marquette would finish second or third in the SEC

36 – yeah, genius…that was the reason for the joke.
37 – ‘Marquette would finish second or third in the SEC”…just bc they may possibly come in 2nd or 3rd in a down SEC doesn’t mean they don’t suck. SEC sucks, Marquette sucks, and Louisville got spanked by UK this year.

Let’s be honest if UK would have came back from 18 in 5 minutes to win against Georgia we would have been in a frenzy for days. Instead, we lost to Georgia (albeit not after trailing 18)who probably is not close to being as good as Marquette. It was a great win for them..big deal. We beat them this year so now their success is our success.

There’s only one possible explanation for the Cards’ performance in the final 5:44 of that game. With due respect to troubadour Ryan Parker, at exactly the 5:44 mark in the game, Dr. Dunkenstein came walkin’ through that door and onto the Yum Center court and put on Preston Knowles’ jersey! It’s gotta be! There’s just no other explanation!
