Louisville and Maker’s Mark to announce a “new project” tomorrow

The Courier-Journal managing editor Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich and the COO of Maker’s Mark are holding a press conference tomorrow to discuss a “new project” between the school and the delicious bourbon, just a week after the Charlie Strong commemorative bottle was introduced. Whatever it is will surely infuriate Kentucky fans, because Big Blue Nation loves Maker’s Mark and wants to be able to call it their own. Louisville fans, on the other hand, have always been proud to represent Crown Royal and Country Club malt liquor, so it’s interesting to see them step into the realm of classy adult beverages.

Any guesses as to what this new project could be?

My guess: It’s not a National Championship bottle.

New Rick Pitino bottle. The wax drips down your leg instead of the bottle neck.

All the more reason to drink Woodford. Sounds likes Maker’s is coming up with a new concoction of bourbon and Crown Royal.

This is just a way for Jurich to avoid, and redirect the fans attention. They are not going to get an invite from the big 12 or any other conference. UL accepts invite to the Makers Mark METRO 2.0 conference.

It’s a bottle to commemorate their move to the SEC…no the Big Twelv…No the ACC…Sorry, it’s to commemorate their staying with the Big East, the biggest little conference in the nation.

I’ve been a loyal Maker’s customer since I started drinking bourbon, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to choose another brand. This cannot stand.

Living in Louisville, there were some rumblings this weekend among my UL friends. The recent Bridgewater and Rogers information sufacing, and the decommittment of Ryan and Valentine have them a little nervous.

If UL is involved, you know it’s going to be ugly & stupid, and will do nothing but hurt the Makers Mark business image. Makers is cheap over hyped bourbon anyway, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

I’m guessing it’s going to be a mix of Makers, Crown Royal & Colt 45, with a side of L1C4 & a get out of jail free card with a splash of the drug UL uses to keep their fans in their state of delusion about their teams to be sold at Rallys so Rick & Charlie can advertise it.

Makers Mark is a “corporate” bourbon now. Their taste rating has fallen every year for past 3 years. This is another example of their focus on marketing instead of taste. If you want good bourbon, try Weller 12 year”.

Makers Mark is not good bourbon, anyway. Keep focusing on making commemorative bottles and I’ll keep focusing on drinking Bulleit, Four Roses, Woodford Reserve, and Basil Hayden. Or beer…

Didn’t you people know, Bill Samuels is a past chairman of the UL board of trustees. But he’s still a good guy. Let him do the bottle as described by #3. They need something to celebrate..

Introducing an “After Dinner” Drink that hasn’t aged well… Also didn’t Jim Beam do a Pitino Bottle? Thought their Red Stag was his signature bottle.

A Pitino signature bottle would be better than the real Pitino and would last longer.

Makers has too much of a sweet taste anyway. I prefer the spice flavor found in Woodford. If you like Maker’s, I would suggest Buffalo Trace as an alternative. If you have money to blow, go all out with Pappy Van Winkle.

But just imagine having the new Pitino bottle signed by both him and Karen!

Makers was hot stuff when I was at UK but, like many have said, there are better bourbons out there.

  32. Pabloco

Makers is all marketing and no taste. They would make a University of Phoenix bottle if they thought it would sell. There are dozens of better bourbons on the market.

It hurts me to say it but Louisville is a Kentucky city. So I have no problem with Makers making a UL bottle. We are UK we don’t have to worry about little Bro overtaking us. So by all means let them have some notoriety it only help UK. When most people from around the country hear Lousville they think Kentucky. Thays the thing little Bro has a hard time grasping lets not have the same problem.
