In case you didn’t know — and you should be ashamed of yourself if you didn’t — Julius Randle will announce his college decision at 1:15 ET this afternoon on ESPNU. Rivals.com’s second overall player in the class will pick between Kansas and Kentucky, although Florida and Texas will also have a presence at the hat table. We will have a running diary here on KSR around 1:00ish to feed the hype and poke fun at whoever hosts the recruiting TV special.
Now for a prediction: I won’t say ALL signs point to Randle committing to Kentucky, but there are a hell of a lot more Kentucky signs than signs pointing to Lawrence, Kansas. We’ve heard for quite some time, dating back to his official visit in September, that Kentucky would be the choice and the confidence from Jason Jordan along the same timeline only supports what we’ve heard. I suppose things could always change, and we’ve seen plenty of unexpected reversals late in the process from other recruits in the past, but the fact that Jordan, who is closer to Randle than anyone, is guess it’s Kentucky is very telling.
It will hopefully be a great day for UK basketball after last night’s loss, the lowest point in the Calipari era. And if Randle does pick Kentucky, go ahead and count on UK being the preseason No. 1 team in the country and the overall favorite for the title. Randle is a program changer no matter where he goes, so you can only imagine what it means to add him to what is already the unanimous No. 1 class.
Come on down.
