Lordy, Lordy, Look Who’s Forty…Fourth in the Country

The College Football AP Poll was released today with our beloved Wildcats checking in at #44 with a single vote. This matches the one vote that the Cats received in the Coaches’ Poll providing us with consistency if nothing else. Once again the USC Prophylactics checked in at #1 followed by future Kentucky opponent LSU at #2. The SEC was again well represented with 6 teams placed in the top 25–the most of any conference. With the exception of Auburn, Kentucky will play all of these teams. Throw #10 Little Brother into the schedule and the Cats are guaranteed to have few weeks where they can coast. The Cats could realistically be one of the top 30 teams in the country and finish 5th of 6 in their division–such is life in the SEC. However, we ever-optimistic Cat fans will not be subjected to such a fate, as this is THE year to hold our collective head high (yes, we are the “Kenneth” in the 30 Rock cast that is the SEC).

As I stated in a previous post, the redeeming quality about facing such a difficult schedule is that the Cats will truly be able to determine where they stack up against the nation’s best instead of having to play teams “theoretically” and making claims about how great they are based on their performance against the South Florida’s and UConn’s of the world. If the Cats are truly a special team this year, they will have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves.
