University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Look into the future…does it include the #1 class?

With prospects like Perry Ellis and Archie Goodwin, among many other top names, narrowing their lists and preparing to announce decisions, it’s clear that some of the big dominoes in the 2012 recruiting class are about to start falling. That’s welcome news for Kentucky fans, as not only will it take our minds off of the next three weeks of football games, but will also get the ball started rolling on the next class of recruits to don the Blue and White.

There hasn’t been too much wringing of hands from UK fans over the lack of commitments for next season, and rightfully so because history has taught us that Cal will, without a doubt, deliver one of the top classes in the country. However, many experts have questioned whether he can make up ground on some of the other schools that already have several commitments and snag yet another #1 overall class for the Cats. Considering the list of prospects still interested in Kentucky, including 2012’s crown jewel Shabazz Muhammad, it’s not out of the question that he does end up with the top class, but still is probably a longshot.

I’ll fully acknowledge that, as long as Cal gets the guys he wants, it doesn’t matter what UK’s class is ranked because he knows better than anyone what he’s doing. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate and place our bets on whether he will pull the top-ranked rabbit out of his hat. So, that’s just what we’ll do. Before any names end up on the board for the Cats, put your predictin’ hats on and tell me two things about the next class in the comments section:

Who will be in it?

Will it be #1?

Anybody that gets every name correct will win a date at Boone’s Butcher shop with BTI, at their own expense. Go.

What matters most is getting the best players that will fit best into Cals system. We lose every year to teams that were not the best recruiting class

All Cal needs to do now is WIN A TITLE. What do you say Cal?

It would complete his climb and eliminate the last valid recruiting angle opposing coaches can suggest to sway the elite of the elite, cream of the crop kids away from a guaranteed “blue brick” road straight into the NBA.

I think we get a top 3 class with Shabazz Muhammad, Alex Poythress, Perry Ellis, Willie Cauley and maybe one more out of TJ Warren, Anthony Bennett, Archie Goodwin and Dajuan Coleman.

I think Harrow should count towards the 2012 class. I think the ranking services should acknowledge this for the 2012 class and with two 5 star commits, should seal the deal for a number one class. Otherwise, I think getting three 5 stars is not out of the question at all, which if diverse enough should seal the deal. I’m hoping for a 2/3 of Shabazz, Poythress, Goodwin, and 1/4 of Dajaun, Bennett, Ellis, McGary. That would/should do it for a number one class. Picking though, I would want: Shabazz, Goodwin, Coleman, McGary. But that is a dream class to go along with Harrow. Ellis would be good for a couple of years though (solid the first year and break-out the next two). He brings something different with the 4.0 GPA and strong work ethic. He would be celebrated like a Patterson/Hayes type player.

Guys, getting poythress and Shabazz together will be hard enough, let alone with Goodwin in there too. Poythress plays the truest 3 spot, but Shabazz/Goodwin could co-exist as double off guards. However that would be dependent on the three spot being open enough, otherwise a big spot will be taken, that would be a point guard and three wings which is crazy stuff with no hybrid big/wing like jones/davis. Makes you curious if Cal would ever try to sell that? It would hinder the big recruiting that year if we did.

Does it really matter? Yall will get a better class than us (uofl) no matter who ya get. Even if yall get that kid Cal was just say’n ‘whats up’ to and got in trouble over. I got nothing. I’m old and washed up. I’m just glad Tommy Jurich is too blinded by his UK hate to notice.

Hello Kiddies!! Its almost time to make the run!! Feels like fall 96!

    Here are my cents:
Goodwin or Mohammed I don’t think we get both since Muhammed has made it clear that he wants to play the two, which is good wins natural position, and he can’t play the 3 at 6-5. Shabazz is Cals first option for the prom, and Goodwin doesn’t like playing second fiddle. Cal want Shabazz to make the first move, but I bet we get Goodwin. Mohammed would be a coup though! 50/50

Ellis or Poythress? Could we get both? If Ellis commits Wednesday it could happen as we could play Poythress at small forward. If we strike out on the centers, we simply put wiltjer at the middle at center, mark it down.60/40

McGary? Wasn’t Cal supposed to visit on Saturday, don’t think it happened. My money is on Michigan. Would love to be wrong.10/90

Coleman? I believe his conditioning is an issue. Can he move like Boogie? Might be a Marvin Stone type. Syracuse and Ohio state both have current 5 star centers in Fab Melo & Amir Williams. Where’s the playing time? 30/70 call here.

Cauley: will football swoop in? Bill Self is taking a lot if heat for not recruiting him harder, especially that Tarz (who looks like the banjo player from deliverance) looks to be going to Arizona. We need this kid. 50/50

Pollard: why is no one talking about Devonta? I bet he’s our sleeper if Ellis or Poythress falls through. 50/50

Warren and Bennett are package fare. Maybe Bennett with Shabazz is much more of a possibility.

    Prediction: Goodwin
Would love Mohammed but not confident.
Still wouldn’t be top 3 though.

I have several sources from the west coast who are telling me it’s looking extremely likely that we land Shabazz. I have also heard from a friend of mine who is a scout for the Orlando Magic who is good friends with the father of Alex Poythress. He says it’s 90% that we also get Poythress. My guess is Goodwin verbals first, then Poythress, Shabazz, and Rodney Purvis believe it or not.

will realignment figure into recruits decisions?? no more big 12= less Kansas recruits? Syracuse to acc might help Carolina and duke and cuse get more players bc of higher competition

That class will be third, behind #1 Ucla after they get Shabazz and Anderson
And #2 Duke after they get McGary and the rest of their class.

Not bad with who we have right now and the Harrison twins and Noels on deck for 2013

First of all, stop with the 2/3/4 position madness. There’s plenty of room for multiple wing players! Cal has a Lead Guard, 3 Wings and a Post on offense. Which players are on the floor at the same time is dependent on what position each player can guard defensively. The old structures we are used to don’t necessarily apply in the DDO.

    Muhammad – Wing

    Goodwin – Wing

Poythress – Wing and maybe some post, ala Miller.

    Cauley – Post

    Coleman – Post

Cal is about to whiff on both Goodwin and Shabazz, and Ellis is going to Kansas. Goodwin was a lock to UK until Cal told Shabazz he would play the 2 spot and was UKs “number one priority”. Now Goodwin goes to Arkansas, and Shabazz goes to either UCLA or UNLV.

The class will be really good with names like Poythress, and Willie Cauley, but it will not be the number one class, maybe top 7-8, but not number 1.
