    Matt,
Can you address the admin “moving” on getting plans together for better football facilities. These plans should be at the top of the stack and ready the moment there is an inkling of opportunity. It’s embarrassing these plans aren’t ready now and haven’t been ready for the last 5 years. I get the funding problems. But you’re telling they couldn’t have paid an architect to have these plans ready. Way to be proactive Mitch.

Matt you’re wrong about Coaching and facilities. Check this list of names out that had the best of facilities and football history and compare the results. Ray Perkins, Bill Curry, Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Shula and Joe Kines. There were some dark times after 1992 till Nick showed up. The facilities excuse is a straw man. Florida St. is good again, but don’t make too much out of them beating up on injury-plagued Wake Forest. Clemson’s offense will be a big test. Andre Ellington, Tajh Boyd, and Sammy Watkins will certainly be able to trade touchdowns with the ‘Noles. I’ll take the 14.5 points!

67- Every single school in the SEC invests money into facilities just to tread water. For the few examples you can muster against facilities being an advantage in some capacity, there are just as many that do.

If UK is sucking hind teat in SEC recruiting, what could a simple recruiting room hurt? What could a new stadium hurt?

I’ll tell what our current lacking facilities do to us… they give the coach of any other school recruiting one of our prospects just another reason not to come here.

My question is lets say all hell breaks loose:

Say The Pac 12 stays solid with 5 top 25 teams… Say USC beats UCLA, Arizona, Washington, Oregon 2X and say a top 15 Notre Dame team
USC would be a 1 loss team that had beaten 5 ranked teams.

Say Bama gets beat by LSU and then LSU gets upset.

Say FSU trips up and loses 1

    LSU,Bama,USC,FSU and Oregon all with 1 loss….

    Who do you pick?

Why is the recruiting base bad? We have a step up in Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Jersey etc over the rest of the SEC. Bear Bryant knew it and recruited a great deal in those states.

  78. Jake
    10:43 am September 21, 2012 Permalink

I love when the show talks about football. Kentucky football fans are so ridiculous: we are ready to fire a coach after two years (not too different than irrational Notre Dame fans who expect to be nationally competitive immediately), but we then define “good” as: 6-6. That’s .500 football, and I can’t think of many other places where consistently .500 would be successful. We are losing our minds over solid mediocrity.

My thing is, who cares if Petrino takes us to 8-4 with a bowl win a bounces? That alone would bring UK into the talk of being a respectable job and we would have a chance at getting a decent coach after him. Matt, I think you have something personal against Petrino….Please tell us why you dont like him…learned from the Calipari experience huh???? LOL when you were ripping him up one side and down the other…and now you LOVE Cal….

You still have not said why you dont like Petrino….be a man and answer the question…dont side step and and say “UK would never hire him” answer the question as to WHY you dont like him….. plain english question

FYI, if its because of his character, we all know he may leave early, but perhaps he could jumpstart this KY program and the next time, whether it be one two or three years, we could be in a better situation…..plus to say he wouldnt stay here is BS, his family is in Louisville, he liked Kentucky when he was here and had friends here…YOU dont know he wouldnt stay

and also about the cheating…JOKER FREAKING SLEEPS AROUND ON HIS WIFE…and you pull for Joker to the bloody end

I’m not buying the football facility upgrades just yet….

I think getting $100 million through the President’s Office is going to be the biggest hurdle–not through state government oddly enough. There are significant facilities needs on campus in the academic and student life arena and make no mistake what UK uses the bonding for is going to be a huge litmus test for a faculty on President Caputo’s leadership. I think they will get something but I seriously doubt its $100 million.

Also, Matt, buddy, pick up a book on SEC football history. I am so tired of societies “what have you done for me lately” attitude. Schools that are down now in the SEC have tremendous tradition and should be respected for it.

    Pick of the week:
*Was correct last week on the over on the WKU-UK game.
This week’s pick: UCLA -7 vs. Oregon St. — Bruins get a home game vs. a Oregon State team only playing their second game. The Badgers beat Wisconsin 10-7, but that win is not looking all that great after Utah St. beat Wisconsin as well. Bruins defense has 10 takeaways this season and their running back (Johnathan Franklin) leads the nation in rushing (541 yards).

Matt, the phrase you are looking for to describe UK football facilities is “necessary and sufficient condition.” This is from science theory, where a thing is necessary to produce a certain result, but that thing alone is not sufficient to produce the result by itself. With UK football, new facilities like a recruiting room are a necessary condition for success, but they alone are not sufficient. Not sure any one thing alone would be a sufficient condition in this case.
