I hate Pitino. However, I think this statement is about as close to the “old” Pitino we’ve seen since he showed up at Lville. That was a good, heartfelt, honest statement in which he had man up and make. His team is falling apart, he’s losing his fans and now his hometown media is digging for excuses to write about UL’s failures. Not to mention, his past players are ripping on his practices to the media! What else is he supposed to say?

  43. Loyal_UK_Fan

The classic spin is that a CJ beat writer, who quoted a former player and UL’s former coach, about UL’s practice habits, is to blame for Ricky’s lack of recruiting. He wrote an article based on a player’s experience. He didn’t write the article stating recruits shouldn’t go to UL because Pitino likes to practice alot. Pitino is doing anything to make himself believe that he does nothing wrong. I don’t recall the CJ ever sitting in on a recruits in home visit.

  44. Stanley Roberts
    3:42 pm January 13, 2012 Permalink

“Back in the day I used to have to walk to school in 1,987 feet of snow. Barefoot bitches.”

A reflective Pitino is slowly coming to grips that there’s little in front him and a tremendous amount of good work to be proud of in his rear view mirror. If a fairly benign article like that set him off, watching Pitino morph into some incredibly bitter over-the-hill coach in the coming years is going to be depressing. (And I’m writing this as a huge UK fan.) Enjoyable to a certain degree? You bet. But also pretty sad.

Really heaping on the hyperbole when it comes to fan bases… Could we be looking at a sporting first?

UK and UL hate each other
    UK loves Rick Pitino
UL hires and loves Rick Pitino
    UK now hates Rick Pitino
UL ends up hating Rick Pitino
UK and UL still hate each other

On Loserville boards, they are calling for Pitino’s head. They have given up on their team. And they say they never throw their coaches or players under a bus. They have thrown the whole team and its coaching staff under the bus. They are already asking who should be the next coach. And they believe they can get an Izzo or a Roy Williams. UL sucks. And I am pretty sure, from what iI have heard, Pitino talks smack about other programs to recruits too. So for UL fans to act like their coach and program is saintly is like saying Pitino has a high moral ground to stand on. I hope they lose every game and NOT get invited to the NIT.

Pitino has no idea what a fool he is making of himself. He’d better be grateful that he did this after KSR signed off for the week. It is somewhat sad to see someone go off the deep end like he is doing but he’s got plenty of enablers to help him do just that. It’s almost as if we’re watching Elvis shooting TV’s in his hotel room. Pitino is totally out of touch with reality.

Last night, I caught some of Pitno’s weekly radio show. His rant started then. The 1st two callers called him out. First one basically asked about Siva and the ineffective offensive schemes. Pitino got arrogant and told him it was a ridiculous question. The 2nd asked if he planned to continue not attending post game news conferences after every loss. That went over well too.

I also laughed out loud when he said he wishes he could go at it like they were able to in 1987…..I’ll bet my house Karen Sypher wished he could’ve too!!!! Typical Pitino, throw the team, the managers, and the beat writers under the bus….back it up and run them over again.

Ricky three stacks strikes again like the viper he is. First, all he gets from local media is pats on the back and softball questions- if anything else comes his way there is hell to pay from Ricky and Tom Terrific. Further, C.L. is a reporter; if there is a problem it is with the statements attributed to other people. Finally, Ricky has turned his inability to deal with his own failures into a national story and tops it off by talking about how it will kill his recruiting. This is all too good to be true.

Watching Ricky is watching an aging athlete who just doesn’t know when to quit and call it a career. In Ricky’s mind, he thinks he still has the skills and persona to recruit and develop college age kids in to a dominate basketball team capable of winning a NCAA Championship. It’s sad. I remember when we (the BBN) remained in Rupp after the game was over to listen to Caywood and Ricky to the post game show. That’s when Ricky was on top of the basketball mountain. Now I see a man who was publicly humiliated and desperately now grasping for the potion that will bring back his of glory days of past.

What a jerk. To publicly try to humiliate someone who seems to really be a nice guy is the act of a low life scum. Cal may call out Tipton on occasion but Tipton has a reputation for trying to stir up shit with a shovel. I like the way he kept using the name “Kenny” like he was too good to read the article so he had one of his lackeys read it for him.

Love how Crum gets two punches in within the article. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012301120078

“Whether it’s right or wrong, Rick’s got the reputation of overworking his kids,” Crum said. “And I don’t know if that’s true or not. I have no way to know that. I don’t go to their practices and stuff, so I have no idea what they’re doing.”

    1. He works his players too hard.
    2. Crum is not connected to Pitino and his program and I’m sure that bothers him. Especially when he sees how Cal embraces Joe B Hall.

Coach Pitino might have made more of this than he should have. I know he is flustered about the last 3 weeks but, sometimes by trying to discredit something, you give it credibility.
Coach P. has he own way of doing things and it has worked well for him over the yrs. I always marvelled at the way his teams seem to have more energy than anyone else. His conditioning practices have to be tough.and to achieve this kind of stamina, you have to push.
Don’t get me wrong, I havae some issues with the coach but, by no means am I qualified to judge his conditioning practices.
Take a deep breath and wait a month, the Cards will be just fine. They will make the “Dance” and they will be capable of beating anyone .They are a deep team and are developing more quality talent all the time.

Wow I heard this today and couldn’t believe what I was hearing. He is on the verge of a breakdown. He has some nerve to blame the journalist about recruiting…since when is it the CJ’s responsibility to help/or not hurt recruiting? It is their job to report the news…a former coach and a former player speak out and Brown writes an article(which I did not find inflammatory) and Pitino just about loses it. Maybe someone should hold a mirror up to Pitino and show him who is responsible for the state of UofL basketball…he only has himself to blame. The Lexington paper is very critical of UK and that doesn’t stop them from being successful. Maybe it is Pitino’s style of coaching(tough practices/not playing Freshmen/having never developed great point guards etc) and his off-court affairs that are hurting his recruiting. All this team turmoil began when he announced he was leaving in 2017. He will not be coaching Louisville in 2017…write it down. Point blank period!

@BLUE-HAZE – Seriously? You have to be a Card fan. I think it is the other way around anyway = UK did more for Pitino than he did for UK as evidenced by him failing at every job since. He’s a complete jerk who treats everyone around him like crap and in the end he is paying the price for his own arrogant decisions. He thought HE was bigger than UK basketball when he went to UL and he has found out the hard way that HE was not. If anything his recruiting has been hurt more by social media and the fact that EVERYONE knows he is a jerk now. In the 90’s, he could lie to people and there was not a good way to double check what he was selling a recruit – NOW, you just go to youtube and google to read/see his BS history. –>The chickens are coming home to roost Bobby Bouchet.
