Listen to Jeff Sheppard on Kentucky Sports Radio

_MG_8567

For those of you who were unable to catch Jeff Sheppard’s interview with Kentucky Sports Radio this morning, you can listen to it in the video below. Shep came on the show to explain his controversial comments regarding John Calipari and the one-and-done system, and as Tyler mentioned in her notes from the interview, he is very clear about his appreciation for what Cal is doing at Kentucky and supports him all the way. He’s not the enemy; that was just a joke gone wrong.

Have a listen and let’s all move on…

Sheppard’s comments were only controversial because that’s the way this site wanted to spin it.

The big “controversy” was that he AGREES WITH CAL that the one and done system isn’t great. Oooh! BIIIIIIIIIG controversy.

But since it was a slow news day, you guys decided that you would spin that into Jeff having some beef with Cal and UK which was clearly not the case. Hey, while we’re bashing former players, let’s dig up some Shawn Woods clips and crucify him for suggesting that some of the players coming in didn’t have the same sort of heart and commitment to the program that they used to. (seems kinda prophetic, if you look at last years team, doesn’t it?)

I bet if you guys try real hard you can come up with some quotes from Travis Ford saying he loves Oklahoma State and turn that into some sort of anti-uk quote that you can use against him too.

#4. What you say is exactly right. It seems to me that sports writers are almost the same as real news writers, if they don’t have somethig to report the only other thing they can figure out is to spin things out of control.

Shep handled the speaking engagement poorly. And he had a couple days of heat. Nobody will really remember when the season starts.

I enjoy a lot of the articles written on this site and appreciate that it’s offered for free. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that there has been an increasing trend of turning non-issues into issues for the purpose of booking people for radio appearances, often to defend themselves. That type of journalism is money and power driven, not honest and trustworthy. Don’t become that type of site KSR!

Great interview, Matt!!! I appreciate you asking the tough questions in the right way. Shep would not answer your last question,..and you let him off the hook. Very classy indeed! As far as Shep goes,…he continues to put his foot in his mouth. And he lost a lot of supporters with what he has said,..me being one of them. Move on to the next topic.

Looks like it’s one person using different names to post comments above.

KSR did not do any spinning.. all they did was put the video online (which KSTV did first).

Sheppard is upset because he cannot make money off UK.. simple as that

After Sheppard’s interview, I feel like he cleared the air very well. He needs to understand that words, to UK fans who hang off every word our former players speak, matter a great deal. He chose some incorrect words. He obviously still has some issues with celebrating first round picks. But I think he made it right.

Leave Shep alone he just said what we all feel. He just wants to see great players longer what’s wrong with that? He is a UK blue blood like rest of us. SO what he loves Pitino he should it was his coach! I like Rick too he was our coach once don’t mean I wear RED that ain’t happening. Shep is good dude and a true UK player love Shep!

When Cal said Draft Day 2010 was “The Greatest Day in the History of the Program” wasn’t that saying producing talent was more important than winning titles?

  17. Sheep
    2:32 pm July 23, 2013 Permalink

#16 NO for the millionth time, that quote meant that producing talent is what results in championships. If you put players in the NBA draft then more top talent players will be drawn to your program. Its a very simple concept.

Sheppard prefers Pitino to Kentucky. So do Louisville fans. Therefore, Sheppard prefers Louisville.

    His choice. Let him go.

16 – No he was saying that it was laying the foundation for attracting the best talent in the game year in and year out which gives you the best chance to win titles. Lesser talent = no national titles, as was evidenced by Tubby’s recruits.

Only comment I had issue with was the “We celebrate draft picks more than championships”. I think that was a low blow and taken right from the UofL playbook. We can obviously do both and would be selfish of us to treat the players like cattle and NOT care about their futures. Their futures are the program’s future as kids like to see players going to the NBA

Take it for what its worth but the Pitino basketball players at UK are somewhat UofL fans. They love coach Pitino..I think hes a traitor..Great questions Matt and too put him on the spot but those were his comments..Glad you didn’t back down.

Matt Jones bent over backwards to twist Jeff’s words around. He has a responsibility to do his homework before the interview. He clearly didn’t listen to Jeff’s entire speech.

31 – First you press the on button of your radio. That is the button that says ON. Then you press the AM button for an AM station or the FM button for FM. Then you press the arrow button up until you find the correct frequency number that the station is broadcasting from. Got it. Idiot.
