Lexington Center submits request for naming rights for convention center

20090912-_dsc7971

One of the announcements we will likely hear in today’s press conference about the Lexington Center and Rupp Arena is that the Lexington Center has submitted a request for naming rights for the new convention center.

This means that the center is seeking a “naming right partner,” aka corporate sponsor, who would have the right to create and develop a logo for the convention center, which would be jointly owned by the Lexington Center Corporation. Keep in mind, this is only for the convention center, NOT Rupp Arena. Yet, at least. The Lexington Center will take bids over the summer and announce the new naming rights partner on September 19th.

What corporate sponsor do you want for the convention center? Please, no KFC, guys.

    Toyota or Ford wouldn’t be bad since they have a large business presence in the state, however I would prefer a Bourbon Distiller to be the corporate sponsor.

    Yes, that URL will need to be fully present. The logo could be Alison Lundergan Grimes and the slogan could be something that her name rhymes with, whatever it may be.

    Bourbon name is trade marked. 2 makers outside KY were grandfathered to use the name. I believe that is why others,i.e. Jack Daniels, use the name “sour mash.” My recommendation for the name, NO! Sour Mash.

    @26 False.

    The term “bourbon” isn’t trademarked. And while bourbon is typically associated with Kentucky, the only requirement location-wise in classifying bourbon is that it is produced in the United States. Jack Daniels calls their product Tennessee Whiskey, because they want to.

    We all know it will have to be something with the word “coal” in it as this industry owns us all..lock, stock, and barrel. Personally, I think Alltech is most fitting as it has done nothing but very positive things for our city and state.

    @28 False to you too sir. While you are correct it isnt trademarked, it doesnt ahve to be produced in the US. I beleive there is an Australian bourbon maker. 51% corn, 2 years distilled and charred oak barrel I believe is what it takes to call your stuff bourbon, may be more requirements than that though

    It doesn’t have to be local. I think a major international corporate sponsor would work well too. Think big names like Apple, Ford, BMW, Coca-Cola, Hooters.

    28. actually, bourbon is a specific KIND of whiskey that originated around Bourbon County, Kentucky. I did a full speech for one of my college courses, on the subject. Real ‘Bourbon’ uses something like 54 % indian corn in its process. Only distillers in Kentucky can produce bourbon with the term on the label, which is why Jack Daniels uses whiskey on its label, since it is produced in Tennessee.

    41. actually, it has to be made in the US to be considered bourbon. That is the 1st stipulation.

    For 76. Trademarked may be too strong. But, look up intellectual property rights under trade agreements. And, Jack is not called Bourbon because the process is different. Specifically, the filtering is not done to Bourbon standards. You are correct in that they can do what they want. They just can’t do Bourbon without changes.
