Teague needs to stay on the line – don’t fall backwards and he makes it. Thanks AD!

Did anyone else think Teague traveled at the end? As we were celebrating he was carrying the ball on his hip with time still left on the clock! Who Cares! Go Cats! Fantastic game!

My favorite part is where Teague travels with about 1.2 left on the clock and starts celebrating. He’s lucky the best official in the land, Tony Greene, didn’t call it.

3- he thought the game was over. UNC players acting like it was over. He definitely walked. Definitely dumb mistake. Could have cost us dearly. He will learn from this mistake. Better to happen now than in post season.

Makes me wonder if the clock in the arena matched the clock on tv. North carolina seemed to give up and not foul and Teague plainly traveled.

I don’t think the time showing on the TV thread was sync’ed to the actual play clock.
The scoreboard clock had reached 00:00 when Teague stopped dribbling.

Let it go guys!. You could call a pushing foul with that nudge on Teague right there too with .9 seconds, but refs knew it was over. Let’s just enjoy a big win. Go Cats!!!

Although Teague’s Shaq-like FT% is surprising for a PG, he has the lowest amount of FT attempts among starters. So it doesn’t hurt us as much as we think but it’s hard to forget misses like the end of today’s game. That, and silly things like traveling while celebrating with a second left on the clock. Cal likes to use the “he’s just a freshman” argument, but you don’t see that out of the others. Among all of our freshmen, Teague has the most growing up to do.

Look at MKG, he has so much poise even when his shots weren’t falling. Things started clicking for him early in the second half and he pulls out a monster game. Player of the Game should go to him, but Davis made the Play of the Game.

  25. jwcatfan1
    2:51 pm December 3, 2011 Permalink

    3. Teague definitely travelled with about 1.2 seconds left. UNC should have gotten another chance if the officials were on top of it. I think the crowd noise and the fact UNC was basically giving up allowed them to simply let the clock expire. Had Roy challenged it, maybe a different story. But again I say it….Teague has a long long way to go.

#20 Vitale said 74-71 Cats so he was very close. Unbelievable game. I knew we would take it iin the second half. Anyone that says Cal doesnt coach doesnt know basketball. His second half adjustment on defending Zeller and Henson was the reason we won that game.

Tell me that Marquis Teague is now over at the Kraft Center practicing free throws. I nearly threw up when he missed that front end free throw. But life is good; I’m going to go strut around in my UK sweatshirt. LOL.

#30 maybe you skipped the part where I said “who cares”. I just asked if anyone else saw it. No big deal, great game, great TEAM DEFENSE in the second half. Go Cats!

  32. jwcatfan1
    2:57 pm December 3, 2011 Permalink

    3. Teague definitely travelled with about 1.2 seconds left to go. But I think the officials just let the clock expire because of the insane crowd noise and because UNC really had conceeded at that point. I don’t understand why Henson didn’t foul Davis either.

Again though I say it…..Teague has a long, long, long way to go before he is a top flight PG. He is a sub 30% shooter from 3…a 58% FT shooter..and really isnt all that spectacular with the ball or even on defense. Solid, I give you, but no way will he be an NBA caliber player by year’s end. And anyone that truly thinks he is better than Kendall Marshall at this point is fooling themselves with their Big Blue bias.

Give it a rest and enjoy the win!!! If you guys wanna be technical about it. When ever Teague took his 3rd step (which is when traveling would’ve been called) there would’ve been at the most .05 seconds on the clock. #AnthonyDavisSaysSTFU we just won BBN

Yep you’ll find UNC’s players are class. UNC is the flagship university here (although my 2 daughters went to Appalachian State (that’s ASU 34, Michigan 32). Duke, on the other hand are worthy of everybody’s unbridled contempt as they are snitty little flopping dweebs who are legends in their own minds, and their coach is a sneaky-assed sociopath. Other than that, Duke’s OK. LOL. Anybody But Duke.

Just played it back in ultral slow motion. Teague receives the ball with exactly 3.2 seconds takes 3 dribbles taking the clock down to 1.1 seconds where he then momentarily holds the ball on his right hip. From there after his last dribble with ball on his hip he takes two steps then drops the ball out of his possesion before his 3rd step hits the ground. Time on the clock at that point is 0.3 seconds to go the ball bounces down the floor with no one going after it. His dribble looks awkward between one and two seconds but it did not appear there was an actual violation more of a hesitation but the dribble was still engaged. If a walking violation is not considered until a 3rd step hits the floor with the ball still in his posession then he did not walk as he let the ball go before the third step hits the ground. The time stamps are based on what the clock on the TV indicated and not the actual play clock. The announcers said the block occurred with around 4 seconds but the tv clock had 7.1 seconds at the time Davis initially touched the ball for the block. A later replay of the block from a different angle showing the actual clock at Rupp in the background indicates the initial touch by Davis was at 6.8 maybe 6.9 seconds. This game clock and the tv clock were .2 to .3 seconds off. I don’t think he actually traveled regardless but even if he did the time differential would have meant that at most there would have been .1 seconds left.

If you pay attention and slow it down, Teague doesn’t walk until 0.2 seconds. THEY NEVER CALL THAT ON ANYONE.

#53– exactly. It’s almost like in the NFL when there’s time left on the clock and the teams are going onto the field and heading back to the locker rooms. You’re even seeing more of that in NCAA basketball now. A team is ahead, has the ball and dribbling away the clock, and the opposing coaches are shaking hands with maybe 10 seconds left. I can’t help thinking, however, somebody’s going to really get surprised pulling that, one of these days…..
