And he COULDN’T finish a sentence. At least Joker sounds good.

The comparison to tubby and Joker is the “style of play”. Both SUCK!!!!!

  26. vator32nh
    10:23 am September 26, 2011 Permalink

We can’t play the style we play and compete in the SEC. We can’t play the Pro style offense year in year out. We had a good 3-4 year run with it, but we need to move to a more progressive offense; spread, pistol, air raid. Something that other SEC teams dont see all the time. Newton is a spread QB trying to play in the pro set. We dont have the depth and speed to play like other SEC teams. We never will have that. We have to adjust and make our own advantages.

You think attendance has been bad just wait. I have never been one to leave a game early, but I have to make excuses now just to stay past halftime. The football players deserve better.

    10:26 am September 26, 2011 Permalink

Matt, can we please address one of your points from the late night post that says at least UK got 2 of it’s top 10 targets. The real question should be why are 2 three star recruits in our top 10? If we keep targeting 3 stars, we will get them. Unfortunately, if we never target 4 or 5 stars, we won’t get them. However, what most people don’t realize is that there are very few 5 star prospects, so we won’t get any of those. But there are tons of 4 star prosepects that we can go after. If we can’t develop talent, which we haven’t shown we can, then we need to recruit talent.

UK football’s on-field performance has clearly been deteriorating since Joker took over as head coach. I’m glad that he is, at least on paper, landing solid recruits. But, he has not YET shown himself to be capable of translating those recruits into better performance and, ultimately, more wins. I’ll give Joker the rest of this season and, as much as I don’t want to, next year. After that, if he hasn’t changed the current downward trajectory of the program, he needs to be fired. This is not little league. This is SEC football (if only in name). You don’t get an A for effort here. You get an A for results that warrant an A. Joker’s recruiting efforts are nice but, unless those produce results, he will need to be fired.

We need to build our program up. Look at UT, they are similar to UK in that there is no in state talent, they have to go to GA and FL to recruit. The difference is that they have the facilities. They got an enormous stadium and facilities to boot. If we’re going to stay in the SEC were going to half to act like an SEC team. If we build it they will come.

Matt, I could complain about game, but everyone else is doing that. My gripe with Mitch is about use of new video boards. (1) get rid of the ads taking up 1/3 of the screen. (2) show a replay of every play right after the play ends, especially if it’s a play where, if the coaches need an extra look to decide to challenge, the’ll have that look.

Still NOT giving up on Joker. The fact is that Trinity High has more play makers than Kentucky. Without play makers you can’t compete in the SEC. WITH play makers, like Cobb, Locke, etc., you can go 4-4 in a good year in the SEC. How many games did Cobb win for UK by himself? Seriously.

Joker is recruiting at a record level for UK. GIVE IT TIME.

49.. the thing is that we don’t have to accept it. We play in the SEC for God’s sake. Say your a for-profit business man/woman wanting to build a fantastic college football franchise. Who wouldn’t give their left ball to have a franchise in the heavenly SEC. We have a 65000 person stadium, we should have a 100,000 person stadium, a glorius recruiting room (which UK doesn’t have), as well as other facilities. But we don’t. Mitch is going to see his funding go way down this year because the fans are quiting FB. Put up the money now to ensure that your team remains a mainstay. UK is just another example of government ruining a perfectly good business opportunity!

  55. Coach Jamin
    10:48 am September 26, 2011 Permalink

Question: If a surprise happens and Joker is let go do to the on-field performance after this season, would it be possible to pull a coach like a Skip Holtz out of South Florida? State of Florida ties, young, energetic, has shown ability to coach at South Florida, good name recognition… what would it take?

  56. football haze
    10:50 am September 26, 2011 Permalink

48 – Doesn’t matter who it is at this point…anyone would be an upgrade. As far as the stadium being full, the eight seats in front of me on the lower level (50 yard line) were empty as well as numerous others around me and all are usually filled with long standing season ticket holders. Mitch doesn’t have do anything different because some fans are OK with “mediocre”…that is what needs to change, but probably won’t. It is just sad for players like Trevathan, who definitely deserves better. He of course is going to lead the SEC in tackles because he has to make every tackle for our defense.

However, even though he’s only in his second year as head coach he’s been in the program for more than two years plus he’s been the coach in waiting for a while before being the head coach. These are his recruits and coaches. You can’t compare him to any other coach in only his second year as Matt was saying. It’s somewhat unprecedented and to fire him in his second year as head coach shouldn’t be unfathomable. However, I personally don’t think we should.

#54 — Who wouldn’t give their left ball to play in the SEC and compete against FL/Bama/LSU/UT/UGA/Auburn on a regular basis? A sane coach. In the last 40 years, have you seen elite coaches jumping at the chance to coach UK, Vandy, Ole Miss, Miss St? Do you live in the real world? How is UK going to build or expand Commonwealth to be 50% higher capacity? Papa John ain’t walking thru that door. Take a look at what FL/BAMA/LSU, etc. have that UK does not have. Its $$$. Does UK spend enough on FB vs. Basketball? No. But listen to the grumbling if UK didn’t throw money at basketball. LOL, Mitch doesn’t have to watch funding go down. It has been going down. UK may have the $$ to pay for the stuff that was promised to Brooks — a recruiting room, etc. But UK does NOT have $$ to do all the things most people assert will make this program a powerhouse. Yeah, just build a 100,000 seat stadium, put in luxury boxes, build a new practice facility, pay a head coach $3.5 million per year, pay assistants $1 million each and just watch UK catapult past FL/UGA/Bama/LSU and go to BCS bowls. Sure.

One big problem our offense has is that Newton does not throw the ball where the receiver is going to be. He waits until the receiver is open and then tries to fire it into him. Our receivers are not in motion and also this has them hearing foot steps, leading to drops. I am not saying this is the cause of all the drops. Our offense has no timing/rhythm at all. I think we have enough talent to win 3-4 games every year in the SEC and pull the occasional upset of the big boys. And, our biggest problem may be Randy Sanders, not Joker.

That is the reason he fills a stadium up every week. People do not want to be told they are living wrong, they want to know that regardless of how they live, they will prosper. The reality is, if you are living a Godly life, God is going to bless you. You cannot live however you want and pull scripture out of context and make it fit your life so that you will prosper. God will discipline you just like a parent disciplines a kid if they disobey.

It is believed by some that the fourth person in the furnace was actually a “pre-incarnate” Jesus. Also known as a theophany, where God appears on Earth in human form before the actually incarnation of Jesus.

The description of the other person in the furnace is “The fourth is like a son of the gods.” ESV That it was Jesus is speculation.

ul KILLED us?????? Get serious. They won by 7. We played as bad as we could and they were still holding on for dear life at the end. It took a bad play by a true freshman wr and an even worse throw by our qb, to seal the deal for them.

They won but “killed us”? I don’t think so.

51.) I support my team, I still go to every game, but your not standing up for anything if you keep accepting crap football. the only way to change it is boycott the team. If fans turn and walk away Im sure things will change. I for one dont care that much. If we lose on Saturday I’ll still wake up on Sunday. I still go to games and support my team even if we suck because I enjoy the game. But if you actually want things to change putyour money where your mouth is and don’t go. If you a company sells you a crap product and you keep buying why would they improve their quality.

I dont care that much. I was just stating lets talk about something positive, it isnt going to change anything moaning all week.

Doing 35 in a 20 is deserving of a speeding ticket…anywhere. Just keep it under 10 miles under except in neighborhoods and school zones where you don’t exceed the speed limit at all.

It’s not the coaches I feel for, mainly because it’s up to them to put a decent team on the field……on the other hand it’s the kids who try to give their all is who gets my attention. C’mon folks if you go to the game it not fair to boo the kids. Plus the fact it shows recruits what a$$wipes some fans are.

#79–If UK played IU would anyone CARE?

Tired of the excuses and justifications and promises to do better. No amount of analyzing the playcalling is going to help. In my view here’s the deal. Anyone remember how we felt during Gillispie’s reign? How about near the end with Tubby? Not enough talent esp. when we came up against really good teams in the tournament. We lost credibility and kids weren’t excited to come here. UK spent a shitload of money to get Cal and it’s paid off because he’s a great coach who can recruit like crazy and has produced some pretty amazing results in the time he’s been here. We have the players with the talent and we’ve got a coach who can coach and motivate. The fans are salivating every year, especially at the prospects of what might happen with the talent we have. Let’s look at football. Joker is a 3-star coach in a 5-star coaches conference. We have 3-star players matching up with 4 and 5-star guys from other schools. We can’t attract better kids. I don’t want to hear anything about Mossak. or Newton. Fact is we can’t compete successfully with the quality of kids we have now — I mean seriously competing game in and game out in the SEC and competing for titles. And we should stay in the SEC, not turn tail and run off to the ACC. If UK is really serious about football and about actually competing for titles instead of seemingly being happy to reach and accepting bids to 3rd tier bowl games then they should go out and hire the very best coach they can find. Do the courting and spend the money because you’re not going to win unless you do. If you get that guy the players will come because they’ll want to play for a guy who can get them to the next level and they’ll be excited to know that they’re actually competing for championships. My pick is Urban Meyer. He’s the best guy out there and he has legitimacy with players everywhere. Yeah I know he retired from Florida for health reasons and you’re thinking why would he want to come to KY after being at FL. I think if you approach him in the right way, really court him, listen to him, talk to him, get him to realize the incredible opportunity and challenge he would face here — the kind that coaches who have done what he has done would find tempting — let him experience our wonderful fanbase, suffering as it has but loyal beyond anything he’s ever experienced, he just might go for it. That’s the only way: get a great coach and support him to the hilt. I would only add that Mike Leach is not that guy. I want to see the day that UK is great in both basketball and football. There’s no reason we can’t do it. But it takes a will and burning desire to want to do it and the brains and wherewithal on the part of the administration to get it done. I hope that will happen. Our fans have suffered long enough. UK ALL THE WAY, BABY!

Anyone else thinking about UK trying to pick up Mark Richt once GA cuts him? Sure, GA is a middle-of-the-road SEC team with mediocre players. But compared to where we stand in the SEC in regards to coaching and talent, it’d be a huge improvement. Plus he’s already familiar with the SEC and how each team operates. Just a thought.
