Everybody settle the F down! Last year’s team didn’t get it until the LAST WEEK OF FEBRUARY!

And Matt is sensationalizing the way the last 2 UK teams played, neither of them beat teams down on the road…

Matt, you and your selective memory. Knight turned the ball over at Bama, Miller passed on a wide open shot at Ole Miss, Knight missed a 3 at the buzzer at FL, etc. Last year’s team lost 10 games, Wall’s team couldn’t shoot. Pushing the panic button early aren’t we?

Why do people worry? College basketball is not like it was ten years ago. The gap between Power teams and mid-majors is a lot more narrow than it once was. Ask an Louisville fan, and that is not an attack against them. The days of blowing teams out on a regular basis are over with. A win is a win. Anyone recall the Comeback Cats? They were normally trailing and somehow won. One thing matters, the final score.

Comments like 39 are right. Cousins and Wall did not put the beat down on teams. In Wall’s first game he had to hit a game winning shot at the buzzer to win. They were not blowing teams out. Last year, everyone was down on Brandon Knight at this point in the season. He had some terrible nights with turnovers. They lost close game after close game. They could not win on the road in the SEC. Some of us were doing the math in the middle of conference on how many wins it would take to get into the tourny. With all the road losses, every home game felt like it was all-or-nothing. Liggins was not a cold-blooded killer all year. Harrelson struggled in conference play at times. We have a bad tendency to compare the finished product of the previous two seasons, along with some slightly exaggerated nostaligic selective memory, to this team’s mid-season building period. Sure, there is work to do, just as there was the past two seasons.

My true worry about this team, is Who takes the clutch shot? Teague certainly is the 5th option. Problem is that he will have the ball in his hand. Will he defer? He didn’t in the North Carolina game, and he choked at the foul line. Davis saved the game. We haven’t truly had the last possession to win a game yet. Think about that. That’s terrifying that we haven’t been Put in that position halfway through the season.

Again all season, we haven’t had to win a game on a last second shot. Lamb is first choice but up and Down? MKG? Maybe. Jones scares me. Miller plays too erratic in the clutch. Turnovers? Davis? Got to get him the ball, from you guessed it -Teague. I know it’s early but I don’t see a clutch shooter.
We need that to get to the championship game. I am hoping Lamb gets more consistent.

Knight and Liggins had this ability. Time will tell who has it on this team.

    What do you think?

  50. JoeDaddy

Hey. All i’m saying is Teague is not nearly as good as advertised. Loved the way Miller rode the pony tonight

  51. Cliver
    11:52 pm January 3, 2012 Permalink

49 – Do we need 2 or 3 points? If 2, then you’ve really got 4 solid options: Lamb, Miller, MKG and Davis; if 3, then Lamb or Miller. Sad that I can’t put Jones’ name in there with any confidence, but he’s been MIA since the first half of the UNC game. And Teague, well… no.

The coaching staff has to do a better job evaluating talent. They failed as far as Teague is concerned. He should be at Morehead or East Tennessee State.

It’s amazing that Coach Cal shows more energy on the sidelines than any of the players do on the floor. MKS sometimes gets pumped up, but several players seem satisfied to be on cruise control. Are they truly that lackadaisical or maybe just conserving energy? It seems they cannot keep their minds on the game. As with most teenagers, they need to be told to keep focused on the here and now.

  56. Sammydog
    7:31 am January 4, 2012 Permalink

Teague hasn’t surrendered his will to Cal yet…that is all it is. They are having a parent/teenager battle of wills just like every point guard we have seen. Both Wall and Knight had the same problems but they were both more mature psychologically than Teague. They both had obvious goals for themselves but realized they could only accomplish them by surrendering to Cal and the team concept. If Teague doesn’t give in and do it Cal’s way, the team will not come together. In that scenario, I see Teague wanting to transfer. Cal may have to takes the keys to the car away from the teenager until he learns to follow daddy’s rules. I say sit him a few games even if it means loosing a game or two.

I believe 56 hit the nail on the head, there has to be a surrender of will, like breaking a horse. Sometimes, the hardest to break end up with the biggest heart and best performance.
