13-Are you aware that BP screwed over his last 3 places of employment? How was Louisville directly after BP? Leaving the Falcons mid-season decimated that season? Take a look at how Arky is doing.
It’s not a question of who you want for one year. If that was the case i’d take BP. It’s most likely 3-4 years of BP or 8-10 of JT. One would give us a moment in the sun and one would build the program.

The problem with UK football and this current group is that they set the bar low, set the bar at the garbage bowls, schedule cupcakes to get to 6 wins and sell that “Fools Gold” to the fans. But that facade fell apart pretty quick when we can’t even win the “gimme” games anymore.

55- It makes perfect sense. UK is in NO position to get picky and their financial back is against the wall. Very, very few hires will even begin to approach fixing this problem. If you are more concerned with a coach’s image or his perceived tenure, you are ignoring the main issue. And if you are OK with UK hiring some no-name retread who goes to church on Sunday, you’re in the right place b/c nothing about UK will ever change with that cowardly thinking.

You’d rather look good and lose. I’d rather win and I’d rather start with the best dude to accomplish that very job. Everything else is tertiary and a problem for another day, provided it ever even happens.

He doesn’t have to be named Tressel or Petrino & if he’s not named Tressel or Petrino there’s an even better chance UK can afford him. Matt, they could announce that there will be a coaching change, as CM Newton did with Bill Curry, about half way through the season. Give Joker the opportunity to finish the season. The advantage is that it gives the coaches a chance to find a job, and also give the fans some hope for next season. It also, obviously, gives UK an early chance to sign a coach before the end of the season, should one be available right now that UK might want.

Ok, Tressel went to 3 title games, and he lost to an SEC school in 2 of those.

How, exactly, does that get us to an SEC CG? No, how does that put us in the SEC CG w/o the same talent he had at OSU? You guys do realize the man would have to get 6-8 SEC wins a year to win the east, right? And his record against the SEC is 1-5, right?

Any chance that Cal would be aloud to have input(albeit minimal,) in the football coach? I know it’s easy to disregard at first, but if a Petrino/Tressel/Leach type of coach comes, I think it would tarnish Cal’s image in the media even further. The media may try to paint UK athletics, as a whole, as “shady,” and Cal may see some effects from that.

    Matt,

I think the concerns some have with Tressel is that he couldn’t compete against those elite SEC teams while using Ohio State talent. UK isn’t going to get Ohio State caliber players at UK and you wonder if he can win with lesser talent.

I’m certainly not anti-Tressel, but I understand the reservations.

  103. JayCee

94- if you are willing to eschew winning coaches for ANY reason, you are more interested in image than winning, therefore, you care not about winning, you care about how UK comes off with the hire.

When a kid’s father won’t say that he’s staying, you have to take it seriously. And it’s more than losing that kid – we get few enough very good players from the state. If we lose this one, it’ll make it that much harder to keep the good ones.If the family isn’t concerned about a redshirt year, let him burn it. The best QB’s may not stay 4 years anyway.

He is very poised and makes good decisions. Newton also gives you that threat to run. He can make all the throws in the pocket or on the move. He has a quick release, but needs to fine tune it mechanically. He seems to have a little hitch at times. He seems to get better as he gets more reps. – Bob Lichtenfels”

You CAN choose not hire a winning coach for ANY reason & it still not be about image, like if the coach had negotiated to leave his current position @ each of his last three jobs while still under contract. MATT & RYAN —–
Kentucky’s mistakes on the field aren’t the players…players make mistakes, but its the coaches who limit the mistakes on and off the field. What happened to disciplining the players for using Twitter 24 hours before and after the game? Also another big mistake the coaches aren’t limiting is play selection on defense and offense. In this MADDEN video game age, we all know what types of plays are available and are used often so we can all be critic of the plays we are watching UK run.

223 — Stats don’t tell the story. You could certainly tell that the defense was playing better on Saturday. You can’t base your determination on stats when Florida had the ball more than 15 minutes more than UK. You can’t expect the defense to be jacked up for stops on third down when they are constantly going back on the field and feel no immediate need to get the ball back for the offense. We know Nuclear Minter can improve his defense as the season goes. It was evident by the Georgia and Florida games last season.

I think what everyone is missing with the defense playing better Saturday is how emotional the game of football is. After reading how Pease was going to lay 50 on us all week they came out played with a little fire and pride. Then the problem was the offense sucked so bad it took the air out of the defense. After watching Newton it should be obvious to everyone that Joker running Moss of may have been the worst decision made by a UK headcoach.

Chester is right. I’ve been down the last couple weeks on the team too and we should probably all just shut up and let this season play itself out. Talking negatively about the program isn’t going to affect the outcome in a positive way, if at all. Until Mitch makes the call on whether Joker stays or goes I will still support both him and the team, he is a Kentucky guy after all so how much can any of us hate him, even if he is struggling right now. There are still 8 games left and with Smith back at QB next week, we have some hope for offense again. Also, for those that didn’t actually watch the game, I thought the defense looked really good in the first half although they and the receivers quit in the 2nd half which was when I turned it off. The running game and offensive line blocking also was solid through the first half before Muschamp admittedly moved 8-9 guys into the box once they realized we had no passing game to throw at them. So I guess what I’m saying is Chester, I’ll try and be more positive the rest of the season, it just takes one or two big games to turn the season around like you said and we are getting our QB back so that’s something positive. Go Cats, prove everybody wrong, that should be your motto the rest of the year.

How would all of the other SEC schools handle Joker’s and Mitch’s situation if they were in UK’s position? Both gone, gone, gone.
Ideas on coaches: 1. Kirby Smart – defensive coordinator at Ala.
    2. Mark Stoops – def. co. at Fla. State
    3. Actually a name like Brett Favre associated with the program doesn’t seen like a bad idea. Also bring in as assistants the head coaches of some of the top high schools like the one at St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida, John Bosco in New Jersey and Trinity in Louisville and Moeller in Cincinnati. What great recruiting tools they could be.
