Leonard Hamilton now wants a word with Wiggins

img17714423

After word spread that Roy Williams would visit Andrew Wiggins next Monday and Bill Self would stop by the day after, Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton decided to join in on the fun and schedule a visit of his own. According to Evan Daniels, Hamilton will come see Wiggins at Huntington Prep on Wednesday.

Odds Cal drops in on Thursday?

I don’t think cal with drop in. He already stopped in a few weeks ago to see if he had any questions. Cal is a salesman and any good salesman knows when to back away and give the client some space to make their own decision.

Perhaps Andrew is the one scheduling the visits to personally thank each coach for their interest, and then commit to Kentucky on Thursday???????

Hope I am wrong but feeling less positive about Wiggins landing at UK. I feel the longer it plays out the less our chance is. Someone feel free to tell me I am wrong and why. I want to be wrong b/c he would look sick in the real blue and white!!

True story: Last summer I was flying back from a trip to Chicago on a Sunday afternoon, and Leonard Hamilton was a few rows in front of me. Flying commercial. For a recruiting visit.

    That’s what we’re up against.

Ville Cat, relax and let it play out. We all let negativity creep in to protect ourselves from disappointment when things don’t work out as we hope. You can then say “this doesn’t hurt because I knew it all along.” It is very possible Wiggins hasn’t totally made up his mind yet and is under no pressure to commit before he has to. He knows all the schools involved have a spot for him. If he is truly the kind of player that belongs at Kentucky he won’t shy away from competition and will want to play for the best team and make history. That would clearly be Kentucky.

I remember watching the 30 for 30 about the Fab 5…Nike used that heralded class to change the way athletes dress and the hype around that class became the backdrop for a huge boost in Nike sales (and stock). Nike wants Wiggins at UK…once he is on the team and the hype of this class is peaking, Nike will use this team as a way to once again promote new products and gain even more publicity. Wiggins will be at UK if Nike says anything about it (and if he is at all concerned about branding, which he is I am sure).

Coach Hamilton wants Wiggins at FSU obviously, but, if Wiggins tells him he isn’t coming, I bettcha Coach Ham makes a pitch for UK. Coach Ham was one of the best recruiters and assistant coaches UK has ever or will ever have. I thought years ago that one day Coach Ham would get a shot at UK. No telling how good a coach he would have become if he had ever been given the keys to the kingdom.

In 2009, John Wall was the #1 HS player. he chose UK and was the #1 pick in the NBA draft.
In 2010, Josh Selby was the #1 HS player, he chose Kansas and was the #49 pick in the NBA draft.
In 2011, Anthony Davis was the #1 HS player, he chose Kentucky and was the #1 pick in the NBA draft.
in 2012, Nerlens Noel and Shabazz Muhammad were the #1/#2 players, Noel chose UK, Shabazz chose UCLA. Noel will be the #1 draft, pick and Shabazz is projected as #10.
in 2013, Wiggins is the #1 HS players …… ummmmm, no brainer.

I think that these are positive signs. There must be “word” that Wiggins is leaning KY and the other programs are coming in trying to save their chances. Of course, it could mean that Wiggins has dropped KY and the rest think they have a chance. Either way, UK is loaded, Wiggins or not.

Great publicity for Nike if Wiggins gets on board. Best recruiting class of all time–The Nike Nine. Nineke. The Nike Nine going for #9. They probably couldn’t get that over with the name, but there could certainly be good exposure…..

    6. Here’s why:

    1. Wiggins, a few weeks ago on going to UK: “It’d be the best college team ever…we’d win it all for sure.”

    2. Wiggins on biggest factor in his decision: “coaching style, great facilities and great talent I can surround myself with” …Notice the absence of “where my family wants me to go”

    3. Wiggins hung with our UK boys while at the McDonald’s events: Don’t underestimate the ability to like your teammates.

    4. All these coaches suddenly scheduling visits: Hamilton did this to try and get the Harrison twins…we all know how that turned out.

With all these factors, I’m surprised people have been saying he’s playing this close to the vest. He seems an obvious UK lean to me…for whatever my opinion is worth.

  34. Bluecat
    2:49 pm April 16, 2013 Permalink

If Wiggins was having “trouble” deciding before. All this will accomplish is to muddy the waters to such a degree as to make it nearly impossible to reach a decision.

Drew, You can only pick ONE man, as soon as you say the word, the pressure will disappear

    Respeat after me…”K E N T U C K Y”

There, that wasn’t too hard! GO CATS!

  39. MN CAT
    3:09 pm April 16, 2013 Permalink

38–Bullock’s going pro weakens UNC’s team next year; so, if Wiggins values contending more than getting the ball everytime down court, this hurts UNC’s chances of landing Wiggins. If he values getting the ball everytime down court more than contending, then it helps UNC’s chances.

@35, Yes, sorry, meant Turgeon of Maryland.

And I’ll back off of my #4 point a bit. Evan Daniels isn’t reading anything into that, and he’s the smartest recruit predictor out there. Says UK made a visit 2 weeks ago. I still feel it’s good for us, but maybe not a strong of a sign as I thought it was. Regardless, if he really believes he’ll win it all here, he’ll come to UK.

A little respect to coach Hamilton. He was Joe B’s go-to guy from 1974 till 1986. Main recruiter and did his best to keep Joe B’s T’s to a minimum. Still, I wish he had decked Bobby Knight after that head slap in 1974 while Lynn Nance was being restrained from taking Knight’s head off. GO UK. If we don’t get him, hope he sides with LH.

@45…. Dude, he knows where he want to play his college ball, he’s known it for months believe that!! Like I said, I want a kid that wants to wear the name KENTUCKY across his chest!, and want to be here, not commit because he feels like he HAS to! Sure it’s a business decision, especially when you’re only staying in college 6 months, but at some point the KENTUCKY name and the tradition and the pride of wearing that name across your chest needs to be a deciding factor! I want someone who wants to be here!!! Where has the tradition and pride gone!!!??
