LeBron James’ Saturday Not Exactly News and Views

Take a good look at that picture. One more time, just for good measure. I’ll wait. That’s LeBron James, global icon, best basketball player in the whole wide world, just cheesing with our coach. They’re buddies, you know. LeBron James and our coach are homeboys. I try not to look back at things in the past when it comes to our beloved basketball team. You can eventually drive yourself crazy if you nitpick enough. I mean, one rebound against Michigan State might have changed the entire last two seasons and the future. Stuff like this is why the DeLorean had to be destroyed, after all. But when I look at that picture, with the respective futures of pro and college basketball in this country cheesing like prom dates, I can’t help but be blown away by how far we’ve come in such a short time. From the brink of disaster to LeBron James shooting buckets in our practice gym. Okay Coach Cal. You got me. Don’t get me wrong, I knew you were good. We even had an idea The Chosen One might choose to stop by sometime. But to see King James in our office…to actually see it…is simply surreal.

In a week where we found out our departed and potentially flat-out wacky coach will be releasing what is sure to be a classic of American, ahem, Texan literature, and where the sleazeball down I-64 was in the news again for what can delicately be described as ‘the wrong’ reasons, our coach and team spent their Friday hanging out at the Craft Center with LeBron James. Advantage us, fools. I know it’s not a championship or a Final Four. It’s not even a recruit signing (although it probably won’t hurt in that department). It’s just a picture, but for my money it’s the coolest thing Cal’s done yet, and a heck of a way to cap off the week.

In slightly unrelated news, don’t forget to check out J.B. Holmes, from beautifully named Campbellsville, Ky., in his now Tiger Woods-less quest at the British Open. He’s three shots off the pace entering Saturday and might even stop in for a post to update us on his round. Next week, the blogger contest gets kicking, so try to contain your excitement until then and tune in this weekend. Bryan the Intern will be along with another installment from the video vault, which is surprisingly awesome given that BTI is doing it (I kid, I kid) and the gang will do our best to steer this vessel through your weekend. Have a good one.
