Latest 2014 Draft Express mock draft looking very blue

High School Basketball: McDonald's All American Games

I think we all agreed to swear off mock drafts after this year’s ridiculous NBA draft, but regardless, Draft Express just posted their 2014 mock draft, and it’s got some familiar names all over it. Here’s the top 15:

1. Andrew Wiggins
2. Julius Randle
3. Dante Exum
4. Aaron Gordon
5. Marcus Smart
6. Jabari Parker
7. Andrew Harrison
8. Mario Hezonja
9. Glenn Robinson
10. Montrezl Harrell
11. Mitch McGary
12. Joel Embiid
13. Isaiah Austin
14. James McAdoo
15. Willie Cauley-Stein

Other UK players:
24. Aaron Harrison
26. Alex Poythress

Dante Exum has made a huge jump recently due to his impressive play for the Australian National Team in the FIBA U19 World Championships. The Aussie guard scored 33 points to help the Australians upset Spain earlier today, and afterwards, did an interview with Jonathan Givony in which he says he’s still unsure about his future. It’s been rumored recently that Exum will transfer to a college in the States for the second semester in January, and Kentucky has been mentioned as a possible destination. You have to think if Kyle Wiltjer does decide to transfer, Calipari will make him a priority. Check out the interview below, if just to hear his awesome accent.

Why is there such a huge difference between Andrew and Aaron? I know they’re different positions but is the point guard spot just really shallow in this draft compared to the two guard sport or what.

These ‘experts’ can’t predict the draft after seeing kids play for a year. Who cares how they rank kids who haven’t played a minute of college ball yet. I get that they’re just fun and conversation starters, but these are sillier than Bracketologies in the summer.

He mentions Carolina in his interview. Don’t know if Cal can persuade him away from his Father’s school. If any one can it’s Cal. Go Cats!!!

Haha. You want a guy to do that to you. Just a remidner Pitino has coached Louisville to 2 NITs.

No way aaron Gordon gets drafted that high. he has superstar dunking, but lacks at other apects of his offense.

Assuming he’s got a good attitude and would be willing to fight for minutes/come off the bench (even a supreme talent would have trouble getting the system immediately), would love to have him join the team if Kyle leaves.

But will he know how to stretch?

    5) Do many 40s means you can’t remember that the Cats won it the year before you, plus 2 others since the last time you won one.

    6) His parents both went there, but he may want his own legacy. Carolina will need him more by the time he’s ready to enroll, though. Especially if the NCAA stops hiding its head in the sand and punishes the Tarheels for Hairston, if not the decades-long cheating.

    11) Blake Griffin dunks and not much else. And Arizona’s probably gonna be good, which will get him more notice than he’d normally get out west.

This year’s Draft proved that mocks are useless and even the “experts” are just wasting their time. Bennett 1st? Noel not top 5? Zeller 4? Please.

My only reservation about Exum is how do you incorporate a guy like that into your rotation without disrupting the chemistry that is beginning to be built up now? It’s a difficult system to learn…and for just three months? I don’t see it…not just for UK, but for many of the top programs including NC.

Dakari Johnson is better than Robinson, Harrell, McGary, Austin, McAdoo, and waaaaay better than Embiid.

The history of freshmen going pro is pretty “blue” too. Turns out UK had 4 one-and-dones before John Wall. The first one was in 1935! http://bit.ly/15ev8yK

Nba draft. Net was the most accurate this year… They have the following :

    Randle-3
    Wcs – 5
    Young – 7
    Andrew Harrison – 11

LOL @ Harrell being top 10

these are meaningless…Bazz was top 3, Goodwin/POY were both lotto picks, even top 10 beginning the season and WCS was a 4-year project. Wake me up in February.

Look at both coaches history and you’ll see there actually pretty similar. Pitino has been to at least 4 NITs, has missed the tournament several times. Cal has been to an NIT or 2 more than Pitino, but has missed tournaments less times. Also, Pitino has paid for 1 more abortion than Cal.

Smurfs you literally have no life you are on the comment section all day. Put a pair of your GDI cargo shorts on and go do something. You can bash UK all you want but you will always be little brother. UL is a ghetto commuter school. That’s nothing to be proud of. GDI

    Hypothetical here:

Assuming Andrew Harrison is a lottery pick, if Aaron were projected late 1st round would he jump to NBA or return to improve his stock in a weaker draft class?

Interesting to think about, especially considering he and his brothers dynamic. Probably would depend on Kentucky’s eventual performance. How awesome would it be if the team that drafted Andrew got Aaron the next year? That’s be hilarious (and obviously super unlikely).

#27) Pitino recruits a lot of these same kids, he just didn’t land them. Why would any coach go after 5 star players? That’s just crazy talk. How dare them. Also, and I’m sure you’ll throw in the “vacated” argument, but Cal lead UMass to the final 4. I don’t care what you say, that was impressive. Did you see what Cal did with Liggins, Harrellson, and Miller?

  25. M
    2:43 pm July 5, 2013 Permalink

It’s also great that Pitino developed a 6’11 245 pound athletic player that averaged 15 pts 12 boards and 7 blocks in high school; that was MVP of a Nike Camp in Africa, that had interest from other schools like Marquette. You make it seem like Pitino introduced him to basketball. If Cal can get Harrellson drafted, what do you think he could have done Dieng. In your eyes, nothing. Good thing another Smurf-Walter McCarthy helped recruit him to UL.

  26. Bleed Blue
    2:45 pm July 5, 2013 Permalink

@31 You think Cal doesn’t develop players? That’s funny. Considering just about every analyst says that he develops players better than just about everybody. Also if Pitino developed players like you say he does, then why did Peyton Siva, who was a McDAA, barely get drafted and will probably not even make the Pistons team. Russ Smith won’t make a team, Chane Behanan won’t make a team, the only player that will make a team will be Harrell.

    All I’m concerned about is:

    2) Can Exum play defense?
    3) Does Exum poop ice cream?

To me it’s hilarious that UK fans think that being a layover for NBA bound teenagers is something to brag about. I love that Calipari has turned UK into the fast food joint equivalent of college . College basketball isn’t about how many kids you can push through to the NBA. If that were the case then why aren’t you guys rooting for your favorite NBDL team? I will take a team that wins a title every 3 decades with players that may not make the NBA but become a huge part of the community over a cut and paste program like UK. It’s tradition that matters. UK is not traditional.

The fast food joint of college bball? If McDonalds was consistently ranked as one of the best restaurants in the nation, then that would make sense. However, it isn’t, so your analogy is appallingly stupid. It is something to brag about that UK gets the most one and done players, bc every school wants these kids and we get them and they have brought us immense success over the past 4 years. Got it now, or should I try to explain again with smaller words?

I don’t understand the benefit of him joining the team in January. Yes he is good but we already have an outstanding point guard and I agree that throwing Exum in the mix might only screw with out chemistry at that point. I would understand if he were joining next year and planned to stay for an entire season his sophomore year but he’s not. Not saying I wouldn’t like to see him suit up in blue and white just don’t know that I see any true benefit? Like Cal says “I like my team” why mess with it?

Exactly, #33. The other blue-bloods are recruiting the exact same players. Especially Kansas. I’m assuming since they got Wiggins, they will take a step back to recruiting all 3 and 4 * kids now. You know, you don’t want too many elite players, dws.

Four year players on mediocre teams becoming involved with the university and community after they leave or told to leave the program? As much time as you spend on this site how could you miss the reports of the active million dollar former players coming back to Lexington just to play and meet the new guys?

Heard it from me first. It young don’t start over the twin, we will not go past elite eight
Cal has to bust up the twins for chemistry purposes. It’s going to happen on the
Next level so why not start in college? You can’t look for your brotha seventy percent
Of the time and still be an effective point guard. Not at Kentucky.
