Late Friday night notes

john-wall-rookie-mvp

As DanceBlue continues to go strong into the night and you get ready to rest your little head on your pillow, here’s a few notes for you to file in the back of your mind for the REM stage later on.  I promise I did my best to wake up for this…

 – In a game where everyone guarded like their name was Jon Hood, a pair of former Wildcats put up gaudy stat lines in helping the Rookie team beat the Sophomores.  DeMarcus Cousins finished with 33 points and 14 rebounds while John Wall earned MVP honors with 22 assists – a new record for the game.  The game was a meaningless exhibition, but registered at about an 11 on the fun scale of 1-10 thanks to a number of highlight dunks by Cousins and Blake Griffin set up by Wall.  Plus, you got to see Wall, Cousins and Bledsoe on the same team again and get all nostalgic.

 – After posting his 33 and 14, it was all love for Cousins, right?  Umm, not quite.  Craig Sager had an awkward exchange with Wall after the game in which he said something about Cousins complaining about not getting the ball a lot, but Wall keeping him happy.  It led to a great still shot by the guys at Awful Announcing.

 – The line is out and the Cats are favored by 16 points over South Carolina.  The fact that it doesn’t even make you bat an eye tells you all you need to know about tomorrow’s game.  Blowout city.  I can’t think of a game that I’ve been less excited about this year.  There is literally nothing intriguing about this matchup in any way.

 – If you missed it earlier, Alabama shooting guard Trevor Lacey will be on an unofficial visit to UK tomorrow for the game.  This probably means he is thinking about UK as a college option.  And that’s a good thing considering the four-star player can put the ball in the hole as well as anyone in the country.  He’s a John Jenkins-ish type of player and his addition could cement UK’s 2011 class as the best of all-time.

 – As usual, we’ll be live blogging the game here starting at 3:30.  As an added bonus, Matt will be on the pre-game radio show with Oscar Combs beginning at 1:30 on the Big Blue Radio Network.  Make sure you tune in.  Please.

John Wall, meet Blake Griffin.  Blake Griffin, meet John Wall.

Someone should tell Sagar that the whole arena could hear him. Cousins is one guy you don’t want to talk bad about. Having said that, he did mention Kentucky as did the commentators tonight. Last year’s class got UK so much publicity for basketball that it’s just unreal. Man i miss those guys! Wish they weren’t on shit teams so they would be on tv more.

Yeah, the sad part was that the arena was full of kids. What a classless showing from an adult. Do not go crazy, but mail them what you think. [email protected]. That is the only email I found for them. If someone has Sager’s email, post it.

I wish the Wizards would trade Blatche and $$$$ for Cousins. Wall and Cousins would become a winning team. They need each other to play at their potential..

#11- not 5 first round draft picks. they can’t lose an elite eight game to a team without a point guard who lost by 30 to a very average duke team in the final four. worst loss in program history. get a life.

Trevor Lacey highlights from Friday night. Great angle on some…

    http://rocketcitysports.com/stories.php?story=11/02/18/2907266

Believe what you’ve heard. I’ll be a Trevor Lacey fan no matter where he goes. He’s a nice respectful kid having fun when I see him at other city games. The kids want to high five and the old men want to say hey. On the court he takes charge with his cousin Justin Pride, this year in a lower classification. They could even close the school after this year….. They should win 4A, which would be 3 out of 4 years with a Mr. Basketball in the other. Let’s just assume he gets it this year, so that’s 2. Might need a better song one day.

I agree completely #6, but better yet maybe the Kings can trade Evans and a couple others and $$$$$$$ for Wall then the Kings can move to Louisville and we can watch them up close and personal again. I know it wont happen but man could you imagine the excitment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

tom5673, stop trying to be a bigger douche than Sager. UK lost (you and I don’t play for UK, so “we” didn’t lose anything), it sucked, get over it. Just because UK lost in the Final Four doesn’t mean last year was a total loss. It was disappointing, but it in no way tarnishes everything else they did. I don’t know about you, but I had a lot of fun watching that team. Have you already forgotten UK under Billy Clyde?

Some life advice from a 23-year-old kid: stop being a Debbie Downer. Life’s a lot more fun when you stop trying to paint everything with a negative brush. Sit back and enjoy all the good shit happening with UK right now, and stop focusing on the few things that go wrong.

twnky: what stupid thing did cousins do last night? If he had acted in anyway inappropriate I would agree, but he just had a great game… where nothing happened – it was an inappropriate and unprofessional dig at a 20 year old! Wonder how Charles Barkley would have held up under the type of scrutiny that young players receive today. I think as he matures Cousins’ sense of humor and candor will come to the be an asset to him.
