Kyle Wiltjer and the Canadians take down Team USA

And now for your Kyle Wiltjer watch update: Kyle and the Canadians showed no mercy on their southern neighbors this morning, eliminating Team USA from medal contention in the World University Games in Russia. Kyle only played 3 and a half minutes, scoring two points in Team Canada’s 94-85 win over the Americans.

Team Canada is undefeated so far in the Games, and finished first in their group as they head into the quarterfinals. Team USA came into the Games as the gold-medal favorite, and with the loss to Canada, can finish no better than ninth. Canadian head coach Jay Triano had a very Canadian response to the victory:

“Oh, it’s great. You’re fired up every time you play the United States.”

From here, Kyle and the Canadians (which sounds vaguely like an indie rock band) will head to the quarterfinals. The Games wrap up on July 17th. A source tells KSR we can expect Kyle Wiltjer’s decision on whether or not to transfer from UK early next week.

If he isn’t good enough to get minutes for Team Canada, he isn’t going to get any minutes here.

Why did he only play 3+ minutes? I thought he was the “focus” of the team and has had some pretty good scoring games with Team Canada?

Kyle played the whole game, it just looked like he only played 3 minutes. He was stuck in the middle of the floor as everyone buzzed by him.

There’s a reason he only played 3 minutes against the athletic US team.

I agree with #6. I thought he was the go to man on Team Canada. Do you think maybe he he’s been exposed defensively in the U.S? I like Kyle but I think his ability is limited. I’m just sayin.

I agree that Kyle’s role is limited, but he is a good guy to have in certain situations (like when a team goes 2-3 zone on us)

I think the post meant to say “eliminated U.S. from medal contention” not “media contention”
