Don’t lie, who really wants this kid to come to UK just add to the depression of UL fans and Pitino? I mean, he looks like he has a decent game but if he chooses another school, I promise you Cal will just get a recruit that’s better. Either way, hope he picks the Kentucky hat. I have a feeling Pitino told the Willis to get the word out that he’s going to pick the Cats, then he will pick UL and make it look like Pitino stole one from Cal. Just a thought.

If I was Derek Willis and saw all these posts from KSR building hype, I would probably commit to a different school simply for the sake of being contrarian.

I assume 5’11” guys won’t be guarding him in college.

He has good fundamentals but lacks true athlectism. He’s dominating because there is no one big enough to stop him right now. I’d like to see him play in the summer circuits to see how he does against top talent. I honestly don’t care if we get him or not as long as we have room for Noel, Randle, Parker, and the Harrison twins.

You guys relize this kid is 16 years old, and won’t be at UK for 2 more years. Plenty of time to mature and improve his game. At this stage in his development he is one of the best prospects to come out of Kentucky in quite a while. Trust Cal he knows more about coaching than us.

Seriously. All of you couch experts need to trust Cal here. This is his forte. If Cal wants him (and he does!), that is good enough for me, and should be good enough for you.

he will prob be the 6th best player in a 6 man class, and prob wont even play his fresh year unless we are blowing some team out, however he will be a nice player to have for 3-4 years

You need to realize the whole reason he shot up the rankings was because of his play on the AAU circuit, not his high school play. Also, he may not be the most athletic, but he seems to be more athletic than Wiltjer. He is a 3-4yr kid and we need guys like this, he will be a great fit if he chooses us.

I like him at UK, the best player in the state should always wear blue and white.

Happy for the kid, however, I must add that this should quieten the “Cal only recruits ‘one-and-done’ players” a bit, because this kid is not an NBA player, nor will he be in a couple of years.

Seems like a very nice kid and a great pickup for us especially if he continues to improve, and he should with his age. I though he handled his announcement very well especially for a 16 yr. old kid in front of all those folks. Can’t believe there are some A$$ out there that have made derogatory comments.

Those of you who want to run this young man down are fools. You have no knowledge of Kentucky Basketball history. Every single championship team at UK has had home grown Kentucky players that contribute, not just walk ons. Nothing wrong with walk ons, but Cal has obviously learned something that some of you haven’t. There’s just some things talent and having the likes of jayzee hanging around the locker room can’t replace- Big Blue Tradition. I as a lifelong Wildcat fan am extremely pleased. Welcome Derrick!!!!!!!!!!

should always wear Blue and White? Because that is crazy. Say Whaaat!?

All of you who are second-guessing kid, even a little bit, will be proven to be totally wrong. Those who say he is not very athletic are wrong. Those who say he won’t be an NBA player are also wrong. This kid is REALLY, REALLY good. All that video shows are dunks. The thing about Derek is that his handles are superior to almost anyone. He can handle the ball with the best of point guards. He is very quick with the ball and will be an AWESOME player for UK. He will also be a lottery pick. Guaranteed.
