KSR’s Running Diary of the Blue/White Game

9:01- Al Fin. 24-23

8:54- We’d been waiting for a deep bomb to be followed by the sound of sirens. Max Smith just made his first big play of the game, throwing a 47 yarder to Demarco Robinson for the TD. The jump ball should have been a disadvantage for the 5’9 wideout, but  Marco didn’t hesitate, attacking the ball at the top of his jump. The White Team went for the lead on the 2-point conversion, but the Max Smith’s fade fell incomplete.

8:45- The White Team puts together a quick run to put the game within 7 points after Raymond Sanders scored from the 1 yard line. Whitlow led the team down the field, with the biggest highlight coming on a 26-yard bullet to TE Tyler Robinson down the middle of the field.

8:38- Freshman Reese Phillips has only been on campus for a semester, but he has himself a TD pass for the Blue Team who now has a 24-10 lead over the White. Phillips found backup TE Patrick Ligon for the 4-yard score. Ligon wasn’t expected to be a big playmaker at TE, but with a TD and a 20 yard catch in the first half, Ligon is doing everything he can to make an impression on this important moving day.

8:30- THE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE IS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!

8:23- The Wit-Throw is looking impressive; Jalen goes 16 yards to the left corner of the end zone to DeMarcus Sweat to give the Blue a 17-10 lead. Whitlow used his legs often during the drive but still managed to perform well with his arm, making good throws when they needed it. Tim Couch sounds and looks excited on the sidelines after the TD.

8:17- We have an estimated number for attendance: 50,831. That’s roughly 35,000 more than last year’s attendance vs. Vandy.

8:15- Second half opens with back-to-back punts. The entire Blue team just huddled near the goal line to get their ish together. Hopefully we’ll hear more sirens soon, but the Blue squad will have to go 90 yards to reach the end zone.

7:59- Jeff Withuhn closes out the half at QB with the game still tied at 10. It has been very fast-paced and we’ve seen flashes of greatness, but there hasn’t been to much consistency on offense. AJ Legree and Rashad Cunningham have performed well at WR, and the RBs have stepped up their catching game, combining for 7 catches in the first half.

7:44- Tanner Blake misses a 42 yarder for the Blue squad to keep the game tied at 10-10. In much better news, Za’Darius Smith is trending on Twitter nationwide.

7:41- Didn’t expect to see this large of an improvement in the running game. Dyshawn Mobley just broke off a big run on an end-around of 20+ yards. Josh Clemons caught back-to-back swing passes out of the backfield, getting close to ten yards on each after making some pretty moves to get in the open field.

7:36- Blue Squad ties it up at 10. Rashad Cunningham is trying to make a name for himself, catching a few passes before a poorly thrown ball by Jalen Whitlow put the drive on hold.

7:29: First quarter has come to  an end with the White in the lead 10-7. The band is loud, but I don’t believe they brought their A-Team.

7:23- Max Smith found Marco Robinson often on the drive, but couldn’t get it all the way to the end zone. White leads 10-7 now after a long field goal. Oh look, Dicky Lyons Jr. is here too!

7:17- Pat Towles takes the Blue Team right back down the field, ending the drive on a fade route to Rashad Cunningham. Looks like these sirens are going to get worn out tonight. I must say this new fast-pace is killing me; I can barely type fast enough to keep up with the offense. 70 yards on 7 plays in 2.5 minutes is pretty impressive.

7:13- Fans are still filing in, but nearly the entire lower level CWS is full. With local celebrities like Joe B. Hall in attendance, it’s a nice spectacle for visiting recruits.

7:11- Jalen Whitlow throws the first TD of the game on an 18 yard out route to AJ Legree. The White team takes the first lead of the game, 7-0.

7:08- Max Smith found an open Rashad Cunningham down the sideline, but Daron Blaylock made sure he couldn’t hold onto the ball, giving us our first big hit of the game. The guys look a little out of sync so far, but Whitlow just got the first 1st down of the game for the White Team on a screen pass to AJ Legree.

7:05: Ashley Lowery intercepts Patrick Towles on 3rd and long to give the ball to the Blue team near midfield. Offense has been a little nuts with all 3 QBs in on the first play, but letting Raymond Sanders take the snap out of the Wildcat.

7:01: First team offense (the White team) will start the game off at the 30 yard line. IT”S FOOTBALL TIME IN THE BLUEGRASS!!!!!!!!!

7:00- Hell’s Bells are ringing to the Air Raid Sirens. It’s been a long time since Commonwealth felt this crazy.

Only Ohio State could play their spring game 110 miles from home, charge $12-18 per ticket, and still draw almost 40,000 fans. That’s what elite teams and their fan bases do.

    16. Not what I said at all. I understand Kentucky doesn’t have the best educational system, but try to stay with me. How many fans would UK have if they played in Cincinnati and charged $12 a ticket? You have about the same attendance and your at home…and it’s FREE.

19 – OK, so you are way ahead of us in football – go get your cookie, son. We never claimed to be top tier in football – just hoping to make some upward progress. Come back on here in October when you guys have your little weenie roast of a basketball practice and tell me if it comes close to what will be going on in Rupp.

    24. You are not going to get a real number. Remember the Herald Leader story from last fall? UK has discontinued tracking the actual attendance figures…the “butts in seats” number. They will only report the tickets sold number now.

35, I’m sorry that even with $1 beers, two autograph sessions with your basketball team, and a fresh new national championship trophy on display, you couldn’t get more people in the Pizza Dome, but you should probably take it out on your own kind, right?

    Hey Buckeye Fan:

Does the 12-18 dollar admission to the game also go toward a OSU style tatooo? If so please give me a tatoo similar to the one Terrelle Pryor has.
