OK so that NIT thing was ugly, but the past is the past; Spring Footballs are flying, prospects are committing, and Cinderella teams are getting fitted for new glass slippers. All hell has broken loose in the tournament, but you can still catch up with our in-depth previews of each region: MIDWEST, EAST, WEST, SOUTH.
Cleaning the house can way until next week (unless you’re like me and have ZERO clean underwear). It’s time settle in for a day of laziness with KSR’s Guide to the Madness and if you’re not around a TV, here’s the link to watch all of the games online: MARCH MADNESS LIVE.
Oregon (12) vs. Saint Louis (4) in San Jose, 7:10 (TBS)
Despite being not getting a new uniform for every game, Oregon’s basketball team has been the only PAC-12 team to get any respect from me this year. I know you remember former Dukie and current Detroit Piston Kyle Singler; well little bro blue E.J. is quite the baller himself. Singler has consistently put up big numbers and is the active PAC-12 career scoring leader. With the help of UK rejects Tony Woods and Arsalan Kazemi, the Quack Attack could knock out heavily favored Billikens. SLU has the talent and effiecient play that has many people (nearly 100% of UK fans) picking them to knock off top-seeded Louisville.
Butler (6) vs. Marquette (3) in Lexington, Ky., 7:45 (CBS)
With Cinderella favorite VCU eliminated earlier today by Michigan, the Butler Bulldogs will look to continue their recent tournament luck against Marquette. The teams have already met once this year, with Butler taking the W after Rotnei Clark with an improbable 30 footer to win the game in Maui. I was actually lucky enough to get the chance to watch both teams’ first round games on Thursday at Rupp. Even though Marquette shot horribly, they found a way to win with miraculous shooting in the end. If Marquette can make a few shots, their athleticism should carry them over the Bulldogs.
Wichita State (9) vs. Gonzaga (1) in Salt Lake City, 8:40 (TNT)
Gonzaga nearly became the worst 1-seed in NCAA history when they barely squeaked by Southern University 64-58. The Zags big man Kelly Olynyk is very easy to hate. 1. He’s Canadian. 2. He has a mullet. 3. He whines more than Tyler Hansborough ever thought about. 4. HE HAS A FREAKING MULLET. The Misourri Valley Champs looked impressive in their first round 73-55 shalacking of Pittsburgh. Can the Zags play like a #1 seed, or will they pull a Georgetown and lay an egg?
California (12) vs. Syracuse (4) in San Jose, 9:40 (TBS)
How Cal ever won a game in this tournament I’ll never know, but the Bears face a tall-task against the Cuse’s 2-3 zone defense. Threes will fly from both sides after Cal played their entire
first second round game in a 2-3 zone. The good news for Cal is that their campus is less than 50 miles from San Jose. Cal could pull off their first Sweet 16 in 16 years if they can whether the zone with a strong home-court advantage.
