University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

KSR Trend Watch: October 26th

It can be hard to keep up with all the changing trends in Kentucky sports these days. Therefore, I’m debuting a new segment in which I chart the trends of the week, from basketball to football to every ridiculous little thing in between. Keep up with what’s hot and what’s not with KSR’s Trend Watch!

Rising faster than Kevin Stallings’ cholesterol count

Willie Cauley-Stein — WCS went from project player to possible starter in one preseason. The player who Cal planned on being here three or four years showed off moves in the Blue/White game and this week’s All-Access episode that make you wonder if he’ll be headed to greener pastures after this season.

Archie Goodwin — The most electric player in the Blue/White game was Archie Goodwin, who scored 32 points, approximately 8,239 “ooh”s and “ahh”s from the crowd, and one “Dang, that boy’s got hops!” from a house in Nashville.

John Robic’s hair — Who knew that the most talked about hair on this year’s team would belong to Assistant Coach John Robic? Robic, aka “Brad Pitt” to the players, showed off some shiny blonde highlights Wednesday night, which caught Rupp’s lights just right. Next thing you know, he’ll be starring in a creepy Chanel No. 5 commercial.

The UK “bench” — Three players who will (presumably) come off UK’s bench this season, Jon Hood, Julius Mays, and Jarrod Polson all turned in impressive performances in the Blue/White game.

Tod Lanter — A week ago, none of knew who Tod Lanter was, let alone why he only has one “d” in his name. After his debut on the All-Access special and the Blue/White game, everyone wants to know more about the Notorious T.O.D., especially those Azubuike-esque arms. Also on the rise: Tod Lanter’s (@tod_lanterIII) Twitter followers: up 500 since Wednesday night.

NBA Cats — Your former University of Kentucky Wiiiiildcatsss put in a good showing this week in the League. Here are some notable stats from the past week of preseason play:
Enes Kanter (Utah): 21 points, 12 rebounds
Doron Lamb (Milwaukee): 12 points
Terrence Jones (Houston): 15 points, 9 rebounds
Darius Miller (New Orleans): 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals
Anthony Davis (New Orleans): 13 points, 8 rebounds
DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento): 20 points, 13 rebounds
Eric Bledsoe (Los Angeles Clippers): 22 point, 11 assist and 9 steals

The Green-Eyed Monster — Need more evidence of Kentucky’s return to the top? The amount of haterade being passed around the league when it comes to Kentucky’s exposure on the All-Access special. Billy Donovan in particular seemed peeved about it, telling reporters he doesn’t think it’s right to use the ESPN series as a recruiting tool. I’m sure Donovan felt the same way about it when ESPN did an All-Access special on his own school a few years ago. Hey Billy, I hear Kevin Stallings is hosting a pity party in Nashville this weekend if you want to come. Free tacos (if Kevin feels like sharing)!

Kentucky’s chances at Missouri — Patrick Towles will play and James Franklin will not. The Cats didn’t crap the bed against Georgia. Rise?

Flatter than a Flat Top (No change)

Kyle Wiltjer – Whereas Wiltjer’s old-school YMCA moves are fun to watch on offense, they elicit a completely different reaction on defense. If the Blue/White game was any indication, Wiltjer’s woes on defense have carried over from last season. If the Cats are going to defend #8, Kyle will have to get out of his Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde funk.

Falling like Brian Long’s hopes for playing time

Kentucky’s chances at landing Andrew Wiggins — It might as well have been Andrew Wiggins week at KSR. First, we found out that Wiggins wants more schools to court him and that he didn’t really have a favorite; second, that he is reclassifying to 2013; and third, that he won’t decide until the spring. It may seem like Kentucky’s chances with Wiggins aren’t quite as rosy as they were last week, but at this rate, nobody but Andrew knows. I debated putting Kentucky’s chances at getting him in the Flat column, but with word that he wants other schools to tell him he’s pretty, I’m putting it at a slight fall.

Ryan Harrow — Harrow’s play in the Blue/White game was disappointing early on, but he turned it on towards the end. The UK All-Access special shed some light on Harrow’s struggles in the preseason, with Cal getting on his point guard for not being aggressive and talkative enough on the court. Harrow has all the potential in the world, but it will take a little more time for him to evolve into the point guard Cal wants.

Nerlens Noel — No one came to Kentucky with more expectations than Nerlens Noel. Unfortunately, the impact of Nerlens’ late arrival on campus showed on Wednesday night; he has a long way to go offensively, and at times, looked more like he should be Willie Cauley-Stein’s backup than the other way around. On the other end, Nerlens looked to be every inch the shot blocking beast he’s been touted to be.

Cargo pants — According to live blog readers, cargo pants are not proper first date attire. However, while they may not be stylish for anyone outside of the military or college, who looks like the genius when you’re able to store your phone, wallet, mints, gum, a flask, AND keys? Cargo pants might as well be the man’s version of a purse.

TREND OF THE WEEK: Bob Wiggins. Hanging out in the Craft Center in pulled-up sweatpants, black socks and loafers: He’s the man.

Hope Robic doesn’t buy a motorcycle…. Willie does remind us of another under the radar recruit – Tim Duncan. Now if Nerlens gets his Admiral on….

Why do people keep repeating that we lost ground with Wiggins? We did not and we are still the leader. He will be a Cat. Just because Matt is concerned doesn’t mean every writer has to follow blindly. Read around and you will see that the smart opinion is that all of this was done for publicity/hype. C’mon chicken littles.

You need to do a Tod Lantern pic with him in green lantern outfit. Then do a “make up the caption”. I can see a Tod Lantern conjuring up a giant green chair for Bobby Knight! Or a giant green Karen Sypher face for Pitino!

No offense but your an airhead plain & simple, do you really want to bet against Cal on landing Wiggins, plus as to Harrow & Noel it was a frigging scrimmage game, geez your one reason why this site sucks at times!

Also agree with #4. People need to do research instead of listening to media trolls looking for hits.

    4:03 pm October 26, 2012 Permalink

Rather then looking at the individual i think its better to look at the team. Theyre gonna have to get better at rebounding, it makes sense, and all the rebounding drills on All access. And, theyre gonna have to get tough, Im thinking all freshmen need those drills where, the coaches hit you with pads while you run a set. I love that WCS played football, he knows how to hit, things are gonna come naturally to him, but he will do things different cause of that football history, he knows his own strength very well, for a 7 ft 19 year old i bet.

Cargo shorts are not acceptable for anyone. They are only acceptable for military attire. Cargo shorts shouldn’t be worn by anyone. Who would want to wear them anyway. They are uncomfortable and heavy. Wear regular non cargo, non jean(unless your nickname is Jorts) shorts. If you are wearing cargo shorts you are not getting laid by someone hot. Wear those shorts above the knee.

This post, like most of what Mrs. Thompson writes, was beyond a waste of my time. It was a combination of a regurgitation of other people’s already tired lines, and annoying assertions that are demonstrably false. And if you “just learned” that Wiggins wants more schools contacting him, you have not been following recruiting for at least the past month. I try to like you, babe, but please try to fnd something to wtite about that you actually know something about, or just smile sweetly and cheerlead.

Ugh! More uninformed doom and gloom from KSR just because Papa Matt said it!
If anything, Wiggins’ reclassification means it is MORE likely that UK will get him, because it means he is reclassifying to be a part of the historic 2013 class. Read up on the boy and his parents. This is great news. Wiggins will be a Cat!

    35) I agree. Its like KSRs objective is to make people feel guilty for wanting, and expecting these players to commit so KSR can create drama about the recruiting process.

My god, I love KSR but who the hell is writing this crap>??? You guys are LOST on recruiting, quit with the negativity, are you turning into Jerry Tipton??? IDIOT!!! You guys are losing me and I am close to being done. Your lack of knowledge and forsight on recruiting is sad. The kid originally said this back in MAY !!! you know he reads this sight right?? But yet we get to hear you say over and over that we should sign moumadou ! come on guys!

Honestly, this is bothering me. Please get rid of this, its a bad idea. KSR was built and ifs followed because you guys are for the most part homers, and thats ok. You are the only ones who give UK the credit due, and not write negative like tipton and the other fools because you know it will get hits. Putting a down arrow against a current UK player and the most important UK recruit is a HORRIBLE idea on all levels. Matt, please, please stop this crap man. This IS NOT KSR.
